Sending Jo off in style

Tags: ,
kileaiya had many online friends, some of whom just found out about her death and others who may still not know.

Two of those friends, metafrantic and sandykidd, only found out about Jo yesterday when sandykidd replied to a comment I left on Jo's journal and asked me for any news. Like so many of us, they can't make it to the funeral but want some way to send Jo off in style and they have come up with a two-part plan and asked me to help spread the word. To quote sandykidd:

Meta called off work, we went out and rented a couple of funny movies to watch today, bought us each a copy of Terry Pratchett's book, The Color of Magic to read over the course of next week - the same book that kileaiya meant to read while she was recovering from surgery (Meta had a copy sent to her at about the time she went into the hospital) - a bunch of 'party food' for during the movies, and a frame for the picture I drew of her so we can send it to her family along with the autographed copy of the Multiplex Anthology that she said she wanted...

Essentially, we're throwing kileaiya a goodbye party. And we're inviting all her online friends to join us! If you want to, all you need to do is have fun and think of kileaiya today, and if you want to go the extra mile with us, read The Color of Magic, too. When we're finished with it, we plan to sign inside one of our copies and we'd love to send it along to another of her friends to read and sign and send along to the next until everyone who wants to has read it, and it can then be sent to her family...

So, who else is in?

If you have any interest in joining metafrantic and sandykidd in their tributes to Jo, head over to sandykidd's post here and let everyone know how you're celebrating Jo's life or that you'd like to get added to the list to read and sign the shared copy of the Color of Magic. Also, if you have friends of Jo on your flist who may be interested in this, please spread the word.

Wow, this is excellent! Thank you for spreading the word so soon. :)

Not a problem. Hopefully everyone who might be interested in this will hear about it.

I also sent word to celtmama and isis_uf, in the hopes that they'd spread it, too, but as near as I can tell, they're away at the funeral right now, so it could be a few days before they even hear about the book.

I just wish I knew which of Jo's LJ friends to ping to get the word out to the farthest parts of her flist. But I suppose it'll get there, one way or another. :)

Yeah. It is hard making sure everyone knows. Celtmama thought she knew Jo's LJ password and was going to make a post, but it turned out to be wrong so I'm not sure what they are going to do next.

I've also been trying to figure out how to make sure word gets to the other sites at which Jo was a moderator. She lists them on her LJ but I'm not a member of Elftown or the Torchwood community.

I searched all over Elftown and it seems you can only get contact info if you are a member and the membership application is an application not just an auto registration deal so I'm not sure how to contact them.

I think the Torchwood LJ community she modded was affiliated with the non-LJ message board so I'm going to leave a message on the LJ community and assume they can get in touch with the message board people as needed.

You wouldn't happen to be a member of Elftown or know someone who is that could help make sure they know?

I'm not in any of those communities, no. an just peeking at the modlist on the torchwood LJ comm, and then peeking at their journals, I didn't see where any of them had posted about her death. It's very possible that they don't know... Also, none of the people listed as members at those comms is on my flist (I'm not a very good fangeek, I suppose ;) ).

My husband and I have put the word out on restrictedsection.org, though. She was on there a lot. Maybe someone there overlaps with one of her other comms, too. Here's hoping.
