So the big spoilers for Deathly Hallows have started appearing, as in ones that appear to be true rather than the made up junk that has been floating around for weeks. One set of spoilers is the supposed table of contents, naming every chapter. Generally, I want to avoid spoilers, big ones or little ones, but I'll take the table of contents if anyone knows where to find it. My reasoning is simple. I'm going to read the ToC as soon as I get the book, before I read the read. What difference does it make if I know all the chapter names five minutes before I start reading chapter one or five days before reading? So far all I've found are the titles for chapters six, seven, and eight and I don't remember one of those (see how important it was to me?) I also found out one tiny tidbit about chapter one that makes me happy.

Anyway, I'm just curious as to other people's stances on spoilers and if anyone knows where to find the ToC. Does it matter the type of spoiler (e.g. small shipping spoiler that does nothing to give away who lives and dies in the end like saying Harry/Ginny are a couple throughout the book versus something major pertaining to plot or final fates of people)? Those of you who plan on cheating and reading the ending first, do you care about finding spoilers ahead of time on the 'net?

PS Am about to head out the door for classes so if I take a bit to get back to you, don't be offended :)

Not very helpful, but I think I saw something like a table of contents at Portkey.org the other day, but it included a few supposed "summaries". It may not have been what you're looking for.

Oh, I found them. They might be fake, though I'm inclined to think real because there were a couple other scans that showed chapter art that really looked like Grand Pre...

TOC 1-9
TOC - 10-19
TOC - 20-29
TOC - 30-Epilogue

Erm, the last one didn't work right... 30-Epilogue Again

Interesting chapter titles. You're right on me not wanting the summaries to go with them though. I'm not sure how I feel about those. If they are real, I'm dying for the book even more than I had been. Thanks for those :)

As someone who will be turning immediately to the back page, I'm going to sound very contrary when I say I'll try and avoid spoilers as much as I can. Partly because I certainly wouldn't want to know anything major plot or character-wise but also because I can remember how worked up everyone got with a few of the so-called spoilers ahead of HBP, which turned out to be phoney.

An afraid I don't know where to find what you're after - and, no, it wouldn't ruin anything for me if I did see that, but I think I'd prefer not to. However, I am now dying to know the chapter one tidbit which made you happy. See, completely contrary! LOL.

Um, snap! :) I'm undecided at the moment whether I'm going to do what I usually do and look at the back first. The reaction of most people on LJ was so horrified that I feel like I should try to be strong, lol. Having said that, when I'm actually holding the book and undergoing pressure from my mother, who's already told me that if I don't look, she will and just not tell me, I probably will end up peeking at the back.

But having said that, I still don't want to hear any spoilers. Which does sound very contrary, doesn't it! I suppose it's just that, even if I look at the back on Saturday, it's still part of the whole experience on the day. I don't want it to be ruined early and me to be driven crazy by rumours that might not be at all true.
bratty_jedi at 9:57 pm on 14 July 2007 (UTC) (Link)
LOL. Not entirely contradictory. I still can't believe you are going to peak, though. That just makes no sense to me. What are you going to do, read the entire final chapter and then go back to the start or the last few chapters or just a few pages or what?

Do you really want to know the chapter 1 thing?

I want to know the chapter one thing!

Highlight to read possible minor chapter one spoiler

Basically, in a discussion of shipping spoilers someone claiming to have read most of the book (not quite finished yet) was talking about which ships were sinking and sailing in general terms. The person said there is Remus and Tonks shippy goodness in the very first chapter and they are together for as much of the rest of the book as the person had read.

How do you do that blackout font again? I need to squee!

HIDDEN TEXT HERE

Hmmm... making the code appear rather than work seems to have made it look a bit funny, but you should be able to copy all that text and still get it to work.

Is possible. I'm trying not to get my hopes too high.

I do find it slightly amusing that you are writing a post HBP fanfic all about how they have so many issues to get through and yet you want them to elope straight away in canon. Yes, I know, eloping doesn't mean no issues, but I just find it amusing anyway.

mrstater at 12:54 am on 15 July 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Hee. Well if they're going to be together and work through the issues, why not do it married? And how do you know I don't have something similar planned? (If I ever end up finishing it, lol. Honestly, I have no idea what my reaction will be to the inevitable canon crushing it's going to get. Thank goodness I have other projects going that I don't think will be utterly crushed...
bratty_jedi at 1:27 am on 15 July 2007 (UTC) (Link)
In general, I'm not a big fan of getting hitched and then working through issues, but for R/T I'll make an exception. ;-)

That fear of canon crushing is one of the reasons my rather large project has been bounced to the back burner. I'd rather have all the canon out there and then write it knowing it will be compliant. My rather hectic schedule would be the other reason it is on the back burner.
gilpin25 at 8:54 am on 15 July 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Thanks for that. Be lovely if it's true but ... it's a big if! I'm so sceptical about these things.

And all I want from the first chapter is Remus saying, "My eyes are blue/brown/grey/green, Sirius was a friend and I'm too busy being a werewolf to be a traitor as well." Chapter 2 can sort out the Patronus issues and then we can have a bit of Harry in 3. Just a bit. ;)
bratty_jedi at 1:48 am on 16 July 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Sounds like an excellent start of a book to me! I would embrace it whole heartedly.

I'm skeptical as well. Of course, that has gotten me in trouble once or twice on other things because I'll start reading something I'm sure is a false spoiler and it turns out to be valid.

oH, When I found out that MrsTater had found them, I started screaming. I was so thrilled...and they actually seem real...BUT. Chapter Six "is" named The Ghoul In Pajamas. For what I know (I'm italian) pajamas is the US spelling for Pyjamas. I can recall JK complaining with her american editor because he wanted to write that molly was a "mom", not a "mum". I hardly can imagine her naming a chapter in that way. :*( What do you think about this?
PS: Sorry for the VERY bad grammar
bratty_jedi at 9:58 pm on 14 July 2007 (UTC) (Link)
The spelling changes are tricky. In the first few books, they changed a bunch of British spellings to American ones. They have been doing it less and less as the series goes on so I'm not sure if they would have changed pyjamas to pajamas or not. I am in the middle of my reread of Half-Blood Prince right now. If I come across a pajamas or a pyjamas in my American copy of that, I'll let you know.
bratty_jedi at 2:01 am on 17 July 2007 (UTC) (Link)
It is now confirmed. As of Half-Blood Prince, the American editors do change the British pyjamas to the American pajamas so Ghoul in Pajamas could be legit.
