I Is Done!

After nine weeks of chaos and stress, one week of utter panic, and one week of absolute hell, I am officially finished with the written portion of my comprehensive exams. I have written six essays and over 13,000 words in four days and I am so freakin' excited to be done.

I am completely out of whack with the rest of the world (Why else would I have decided to do my last question from 6:30 pm to 2:30 am rather than at a reasonable hour?). I've not eaten well in weeks and have literally been living on tomato soup and Papa John's breadsticks for the past three days. I am exhausted and I don't feel well (Have you ever written a six page essay sitting on the floor of the bathroom because it seemed more convenient than constant trips back-and-forth?). Is it any wonder that the greatest fear in my world is that I will fail and have to do this all over again? I'm tempted to offer to bet every member of my flist $20 that I failed because if I pass I will be so happy I won't care about the money and if I fail all the money coming in will make me feel a little better :) Assuming I passed, I still have to survive the oral exams, but I'm not thinking about those until after I get the results of the writtens, which should be by Wednesday, I think. Between now and then I plan to do as little as is humanly possible.

Now if someone could just explain to me how "as little as is humanly possible" gets translated into going to bed in the next hour or so, getting up after only four or five hours of sleep in order to hand in exams and volunteer at the elementary school and leading a tour of prospective history grad students all around campus on Saturday. Good thing the "tour" generally consists of history building, Daily Grind (on campus coffee shop), library, and the Green Leafe ("bar" across the street from history building).

EDIT: Wow. Close to two weeks since I last posted. I think that is a record for me.
Oh, and I'll get rid of the St. Patty background soonish. Maybe after I get done at the elementary school since I told mrstater to talk to me then about code and I can play with more than one layout at a time (Hopefully without killing both in the process!).

EDIT2: So it is now three hours since I posted, 1.5 hours until I'm supposed to get up, and I have yet to go to bed, for no apparent reason. I tried. Really I did. I turned off the computer, turned off the lights, and lay in bed for a while, and just couldn't get to sleep. Apparently the excitement of being OMG!done outweighs exhaustion. And for some unknown reason my internal thought process at the moment is sounding rather like:

I want to go to IHOP and get pancakes.
You can't have pancakes. They make you sick.
But I love pancakes. They are so yummy.
No yummy pancakes. They make you sick.
*pout* Pancakes.
They don't make me really sick. Only sort of sick.

Yeah. I really should have gone to sleep. Or at least left the computer turned off and spared the rest of the world that lovely look inside my mind.

Congrats on finishing the written portion! I'm sure you did great (and if you didn't, I'll send you cookies)!
bratty_jedi at 10:48 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Mmmmm... cookies. Almost as tasty as pancakes and they don't make me sick. We may have a winner.

But I only get cookies from Jo if I fail... I could bake cookies this weekend because I don't have to study anymore! Yay cookies!

Thanks for the congrats, and the cookie idea, and yes I am completely insane at the moment.

Here is Remus, God of Sex, to offer you a congratulatory snog. Or backrub, as you prefer. :D

YAY, I am SOOOOOOO happy for you that all that is FINISHED. I was just thinking about you the other day and figuring you were probably in the throes of ... well, something PhD-ish.

You should do nothing but sleep and watch silly movies this weekend. :)
bratty_jedi at 10:51 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Hooray for sex god Remus. Thank you so much for sharing!

I'm not sure I should watch silly movies. I'm currently experiencing an overload of silly all on my own. Movies might give me bad ideas. Or you know, good ideas for me and bad for the rest of the world.

The more I think about it... the better this silly movie idea gets.
bratanimus at 10:56 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Heh heh. I think SexGod!Remus actually belongs to everyone, like Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy.

I can imagine you're probably pretty punchy after such a prolonged period of intense work and concentration. Channel your silliness for good, not evil. ;)

Have you ever been SO punchy that you started laughing and just got completely out of control? I sure have. Kind of embarrassing but also strangely freeing at the same time. LOL
bratty_jedi at 11:12 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
I giggle randomly all the time. I'm a bit odd.

Right now, I'm waiting for the crash. I fully expect to hit a wall, collapse, and sleep for about 36 hours straight in the near future. Hopefully after the hanging out with the elementary kids. Would be a bit odd if I fell asleep in the middle of helping a second-grader with reading, no?
bratanimus at 11:22 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Hehe, I' m just imagining a second grader poking you: "Er, Rachael? Miss Brown, Rachael's asleep!!" And your reply: "Wha? Uh, no I wasn't. I was resting my eyelids. No, erm, I was checking for light leaks. Um. Yeah."

I don't think giggling randomly is odd at all. Seems healthy to me. Better than being a curmudgeon anyway. ;)

Speaking of curmudgeons, I suppose I'd better go to work. *grumble grumble*

Yay, weekend! :D
bratty_jedi at 11:39 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
There are a couple of the kids that would totally do that. One little guy in particular has an enormous Southern drawl and he would be so cute saying something like that (and very likely to poke me as well).

Yay, weekend! Oh, wait... I have to give stupid tour on Saturday. Yay most of the weekend!

Actually, I don't mind doing the tour stuff. Gives me a chance to meet the newbies and start getting to know them.

Congrats for making it this far. I'm sure you did great :).

Virtual cakes won't make you ill, right?
bratty_jedi at 11:15 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Thanks! Here's hoping the profs agree with you after reading my answers. Or they could just agree with you and not bother reading. That would work for me.

Yummy virtual cakes! I'm perfectly fine with cakes, virtual or otherwise.

I know you've worked very hard, and I don't think you'll need that betting pool, either.

Pancakes make me sick, too. Even if I don't put anything on them...
bratty_jedi at 11:40 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Thanks so much! You know your support through out this has meant a ton to me, right!?!?

Waffles don't make me sick. French toast doesn't make me sick. Just pancakes. So of course, ask me which one of the three syrup-drenched breakfast foods I like best?

mrstater at 11:43 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Ugh, they all make me sick. They make me sick just thinking about them...

I'm just glad to have been able to help. :) And we now return to our regularly scheduled talk of 17th century gay werewolves in drag, right?
bratty_jedi at 11:49 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
I think they are yummy. I've always said breakfast is the best meal because with all those, donuts, etc. you get all this sugar that at any other meal would be called dessert and you'd have to eat your yucky vegetables first. I have a coffee mug with a stack of pancakes on it that says "Got Milk?" in the syrup.

Absolutely! When last we left our gay werewolves... had we moved them back to Elizabethan era or up to Versailles just before the French Revolution?

mrstater at 11:51 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
I think we decided Marie Antoinette was a good model for them...I'm picturing Fenrir Greyback saying, "Let them eat people!"
bratty_jedi at 11:56 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
LOL! You are so awesome!

I'd make a more intelligent reply, but my brain isn't functioning.
What's Taters, Precious?
mrstater at 11:57 am on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
I don't think there's really anything intelligent to be said for me throwing Greyback into the gay werewolves mix, and making him Marie Antoinette on top of it...
bratty_jedi at 12:00 pm on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
But it is funny! I like da funny!
godricgal at 1:59 pm on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Congratulations! It must be such a relief for you, and I'd be giddy, too. Maybe you should employ the jumping around on the bed method to unleashed some of that energy - although the kids might do that for you. Anyway, seriously well done for making it though all that, I can't imagine how stressful it must have been.
bratty_jedi at 6:29 pm on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Thanks so much!

I have considered jumping on beds. Ultimately, I think I'm too tired at the moment. Perhaps after some sleepy I will be less giddy and more energetic.

She's back! I was wondering why you hadn't posted in a while. I hope you enjoy your test-less time! I'm sure you did great.
bratty_jedi at 6:32 pm on 23 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
I am so looking forward to the next few days off. Today has been so lovely. The weather is great and even now, inside on the computer, I'm laying next to an open window with a lovely breeze washing over me. So heavenly. But I feel a bit guilty. I keep having brief moment of "What am I doing? I've got to get busy!" The realization of "No. I don't have to get busy. I'm done!!!" is such a lovely one every time.
littlepixiechic at 2:19 am on 24 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
YAAAAY! You're finished the written section! Congrats:)
bratty_jedi at 2:22 am on 24 March 2007 (UTC) (Link)
Thanks. :)
