*sniffle* But...but...oh, you're right, it just sucks that he got killed off so quickly. Really an amazing character.

So, I've read five of Zahn's Thrawn books - were there more then?

From what you've said, I'm assuming you read the original trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn duology, yes? There are two others. I recommend reading them in publication rather than chronological order. That would be:

Survivor's Quest: less than a year (I think) after their marriage, Luke and Mara get a garbled message that has something to do with the Chiss and the planet they were on in the Hand of Thrawn duology. They go to that planet and find out that the Chiss have found the remains of the Outbound Flight project (the expedition of Jedi, including the original Jorus C'Baoth, to explore beyond the galaxy that Thrawn destroyed and is often mentioned in the background in the original Zahn trilogy). Luke and Mara, at the invite of the Chiss, accompany a Chiss investigative team to explore the ruins. A very good, exciting, and intriguing read.

Outbound Flight: This is the book. This is the one. Finally! This one takes place during the era of the prequel trilogy and, as the name implies, is the story of the actual Outbound Flight project and Thrawn's destruction of it. Lots of good stuff getting into a younger Thrawn's mind. Not to mention you get to meet his brother. You'll love it. But you really should read the other one first. There are so many things that are mysteries in Survivor's Quest, that are meant to be mysteries if you read them in publication order as intended, that are ruinedif you read Outbound Flight first.

Yep, first five - I knew Zahn was writing the other two but hadn't gotten around to reading them yet. More actual Thrawn?? Sweeeeeet!!! And more Luke and Mara, too! I do like that pairing - I know a lot of fans don't, but it seemed fine to me, although it sucks that authors have since taken their relationship to the extreme that you described.

I want to write some Thrawn fanfic...*sigh*...my to-write list grows ever longer.
