Sleep Schedule

Tags:
Typically, if I'm left to my own devices and don't have to be anyplace at any specific time, my body will naturally adjust to a schedule of sleeping from about 2:00 am to 10:00 am. I can get 8 hours of sleep from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am or 12:00 am to 8:00 am or basically any other window, and I won’t feel as refreshed as I do if I sleep 2:00 am to 10:00 am. I don't understand it, I just work with it.

Since I'm just studying for comps this semester and don't have to be any place at a specific time (except for volunteering at the elementary school on Friday mornings, but one day of waking to the alarm at 8:00 is livable), I was already on the whole sleeping 2:00 to 10:00 schedule. Until this week. Sunday night, I just couldn't get to sleep. I tried going to bed at 2:00, gave up at 2:30, and got up. I got through another book for my comps, played on the internet some, and finally went to bed at about 6:00, the same time my roomie's alarm went off to get her up for classes. I slept until 10:30 Monday. Last night, I went to bed around 3:30 or 4:00 and slept until 11:00 today. If this keeps up, I'm going to be so out of whack with the rest of the world, I won't know if I'm coming or going.

With the whole sleep thing being so weird and not getting 8 hours the past two nights, I feel a bit tired and drained. So today I gave in. I hate caffeine. I can't stand the taste of it. I don't like coffee, tea, coke, etc. There is only one root beer that contains caffeine and I love every other kind and can't stand that one brand. Some of my friends, thinking it was all in my head and not believing that I really can taste the caffeine, have made me do blind taste tests with different types of root beer and I can pick the one with caffeine because it tastes and smells so bitter compared to the rest. The only way I can even tolerate any caffeinated beverages is modified cokes such as vanilla cokes. I ordinarily drink one of those every two or three months at a restaurant and one has enough caffeine to keep me awake for at least a-day-and-a-half. Today I bought a case of cans of black cherry vanilla cokes because I know I'm going to be needing the caffeine. I've drank about half of one and my right hand is shaking. I didn't notice this until I had already started drinking the coke, so I don't know if the coke is the cause or if it will help with the shaking or if the two are completely unrelated. It's a bit odd, though, that only my right hand is shaking. Kind of like Blazing Saddles.

I really want to finish my first book list this week, but I don't think that will happen. If I can get through it by the first part of next week, I should still be able to get the first two lists done in the first five weeks (giving me five weeks for the second two lists) because my first list is 65 books and my second is 29 (guess which professor I currently like better?). In a vain attempt to get through the first list this week, I'm trying to do five books a day. I've only managed that once. Most of the time I get three or four. It's kind of sad when "reading" four books a day seems unproductive.
