The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of life at William and Mary this week.

The Good: I got a letter from the state about the university cleaning my old apartment before I had finished moving out and before I had turned in the keys or anything and trashing my stuff back when I was moving apartments in August (see here if you’ve no idea what I’m talking about and want a few basic details and here if you want to follow the entire unfolding saga). I now have a form that, if I sign and get the signature notarized, basically says I absolve the state, college, and everybody else on the face of the planet of all guilt and further liability and will not sue. In exchange, I get a check for $1,000. The estimate I gave them was $1,019.66 for the current replacement cost of everything trashed. The estimate included buying discontinued collectibles off ebay for three times their original value and buying a brand new leather book bag to replace one that was about a decade old and in pretty shabby condition, so I’m fairly surprised they are offering basically what I was asking. I think they know they done screwed up big time and just want me to shut up and go away. Since $1,000 is basically what I wanted and means I don’t have to get a lawyer and put up with more stress, I’m taking the money and running! Yay!

The Bad: I wanted to get through 16 books off my comps list this week. As of now, I’ve done 12.5.

The Ugly: All College of William and Mary IT services will be turned off all day Sunday. This includes all wired and wireless internet access. I won’t have teh interweb all day Sunday! It should be back sometime in the evening (5:00 or 6:00?).

Overall: I think I might goof off most/all of the day tomorrow and spend Sunday (with no ‘net to distract) getting caught back up on my reading list, thus allowing the ugly to fairly well cancel out the bad. Which means this weekend is looking like $1,000 worth of all good!

Now, off to Deathly Hallows Meme, buy groceries, and clean apartment for roomies impending return from holiday vacation.

Yay! That's good that they're paying you and you don't have to worry about fighting for the money. Huzzah!

I'm oh so happy! Of course, I've already replaced most of the stuff that was trashed that I needed so now I have to decide what to do with $1,000. Other than use it to replenish my drained bank account, which sounds fairly boring.

*points to icon* Heehee.

Is there anything you've been wanting?

Your icon sounds about right (and mine looks it). ;) I will spend at least some of it on books and comic books.

I just bought a digital camera and printer (as in the camera arrived in the mail yesterday or the day before and hasn't been turned on and the printer hasn't even arrived yet). Those were the big things I was thinking about.

Perhaps some type of mini vacation after I finish my comps in April?

I'm SO glad they're reimbursing you.

Good luck with all your reading this weekend! No internet is no fun, but maybe you'll get caught up and can spend more time online next week. ;)

Thanks. :)

I'm really hoping that I'm pushing myself harder now than I really need to and I'll realize that in a few weeks and be able to let up a bit. But I'd rather do that than get half-way through, be tired from the cumulative effect of weeks of doing this, and realize I have to push myself harder at that point. Hopefully I'll be around more during the weeks as I get into a groove. If not, there's always the weekends.

Oh, have fun with your trip! Try not to get too frozen up North with the in-laws.

Your plan sounds very smart. I do hope it works out for you.

And thanks. It'll be a fun trip, if a bit shockingly cold after our 60s!

I've never been able to stick to a plan like this in my life. I always come up with them, but they never work. I think the pressure of this one is going to make it work, though. I've basically stuck to it for a week, which is about 5 days longer than I usually manage with these schedules.

We had record highs on Saturday (75) and then down to the 50s or so the past couple of days. Very annoying, but not quite as cold as what you're likely to get.

YAY! Sounds like a great weekend plan - particularly the $1,000 check and a shopping spree. :)

Glad you got that settled finally, and without incurring legal fees!

Have a nice, peaceful weekend!

I'm quite happy about it. Now if only I had time for a shopping spree. That mini-trip come summer is sounding better and better every moment.
