My Christmas Song and Papers Suck

Tags: , , ,
Doesn't quite fit the original beat/meter... but I like it :) I sound all kinds of nifty.

O Bratty_Jedi of wonder, Bratty_Jedi of might,
Bratty_Jedi of royal beauty bright.

We Three Kings Of Orient Are (the original was star)

I have a paper I wanted to have done by the end of the day yesterday so I could spend today, tomorrow, and Monday doing another paper. I spent the morning volunteering at the elementary school, the early afternoon pretending to work at the book store while in reality chatting with friends who were also working there and helping them with their stuff, and then late afternoon and evening trying to write my paper, realizing that the organization I'd been using wouldn't work, frantically trying to come up with something that would work, before finally realizing that my original plan would work with the addition of two sentences at the beginning of the paper and a minor bit of rearranging in the part I hadn't yet written. Net result is that I wasted several hours and only wrote an additional two pages all day, putting me approximately half-way through the twenty page paper. It will be done today. There is no other choice.

Aw, good luck on the paper, chica. You can do it! And then you get some time off!

Thanks. It really shouldn't be this bad to write a stupid twenty-page paper. I can churn one out in a day. But this paper relates to what I want to do for my dissertation so I actually CARE about it beyond just finishing a stupid paper for a stupid class. I know this stuff will matter to my future research, so I'm really trying to get it right and that is just screwing me over for having the time to finish the rest of my papers. I think I'm going to have to give up on any perfectionist tendencies for the sake of just getting things done.

Is it Allegro's paper? Cos' I'm super-screwed on that one.

That would be the one. I've got to get it done today so I can do Scott's on Sunday and Monday and then only have to take Lane's home with me. I really don't know if I can research and write Scott's in two days but I don't want to have to take two home. I can't take that many books on the plane. As is, I don't see how I'm going to have Lane's done before Christmas and we're going to my grandparents' for the week between Christmas and New Years and then I'm back here on January 4 to begin comps prep. Someone just let me know when it's mid April?

Oh, when are you heading out? I'm trying to scare up a ride to the Newport News airport for Tuesday morning...

Thanks. I've gotten some done today but I think I've reached the point where I'm going to have to work by hand for a couple of hours in order to separate myself from my computer/LJ in order to finish this today. Otherwise I'm going to spend the next hour searching all the LJ status/bug/support spots to see if I can find out what is going on with the notifications not coming through.

All I've been able to find after very quick searching (10 minutes while eating a snack) is that lots of people are having problems, some people are getting some emails very quickly (usually responses to comments they left in others journals) and not getting other notifications (usually comments left by others on their own posts) until much later if at all, some people aren't getting any notifications, and some people aren't having any problems at all. The only "official" LJ responses I've found are a comment that they didn't know of any such bug to which several people replied they had sent in support requests a few days ago and a comment that it is all just an email backlog and we have to wait for their server to clean out (which doesn't explain to me why some notifications are getting through very quickly and others not at all).

Get off LJ Rachael! Or you'll never get your paper done. =P

That is just odd, I hope they fix it soon. I'm still getting notifications, and I think I am getting all of mine, though I am not sure. I'll have to go back through messages and see. LJ has been having all kinds of wonky problems as of late.
