I hate the Atlanta Airport!

Tags: ,
Really, I do. I despise the Atlanta Airport. If you ever have the option of traveling through Atlanta or anywhere else, take the anywhere else. Seriously.

Actually, none of my problems are Atlanta's fault. But I still hate the Atlanta Airport. Last year when I was attempting to come home from Thanksgiving, I couldn't get out of Houston. After sitting in the airport for hours, being let on the plane and kicked back off the plane, sitting in the airport for a few more hours, and meeting my uncle for an impromptu dinner since he had a layover in Houston flying from and to somewhere different than me but was supposed to be there after I'd left, I finally got to Atlanta after the last flight to Virginia had left for the night and was stranded overnight. The lovely airline put me up in a hotel and bought me breakfast, but I wasn't a happy camper.

When my parents came to see me in October, they couldn't get out of Houston and when they finally did they had missed all connecting flights and were stranded in Atlanta overnight. Their airline didn't pay for their hotel or meals. Not very nice.

Today, I'm traveling on the same airline my parents used. I couldn't get out of Virginia because the plane I was supposed to be taking couldn't get out of Laguardia due to normal New York flight issues and someone on the plane needing medical assistance. The plane finally got to the New Port/Williamsburg airport and I took off from there about the time I was supposed to be landing in Atlanta. I got to Atlanta about five minutes after my flight left for Houston leaving me stranded yet again in Atlanta. Oddly, the airline is paying for my hotel and breakfast (did they just not like my mom and dad?). I'm in the same hotel I was in last Thanksgiving which has lovely free wireless so I can share my troubles with the world.

I have to get up way too early tomorrow so I can hopefully get out of Atlanta and on to home so I think I shall go to bed. I know you are supposed to be thankful for what you already have at Thanksgiving but I think I shall be too busy hoping that I do not get stuck in Atlanta yet again when I am flying back to Virginia on Monday. I'm already skipping classes Monday so I can fly back then instead of Sunday since the Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest flying day of the year and tickets were like $200 more for Sunday than Monday. I can't miss Tuesday on top of Monday. I need to get away from Atlanta.

*pats* That's another reason to add to the 'Why Jordan avoids flying' list. Sorry about you being stuck there for the night, hopefully the return trip will be less troublesome.

I really don't mind flying. If my sinuses are stuffy, I sometimes get headaches because I can't get my ears to pop and equalize the pressure. Other than that, I like flying. My parents were both Air Force and my dad had a small craft (not Air Force) pilot's license and works at a commercial pilot training center on the huge simulators so I grew up around planes and thinking of flying as a fun and normal thing. I really enjoy it. Commercial flying at holiday time is just a hassle.

Ugh, airports are the worst. Hope it goes smoother for you today, and that you're in there for as little time as is possible...

Today's flight went rather well. I actually got in about 10 minutes early. Of course, that was 10 hours late total, but close enough.

Not again! Atlanta obviously is the hell hole of airports, sucking hapless passengers in and refusing to allow them to continue to their destination. Totally sucky. I hope your return flight is better! Happy Thanksgiving (once you get home)!

I should find some astrophysicists and suggest they do research on the Atlanta Airport to make sure there isn't a small black hole there or something. It is absolutely ridiculous. Whatever force field exists there decided to let me go so I am happily at my parents. Hopefully once the holiday ends I'll be able to get back to VA without complications. In the mean time, Happy Thanksgiving to you. :-)
