The British Casting Gods Are Trolling Us

Tags: ,
A few weeks ago, maybe, BBC announced they'd be doing a second round of their Hollow Crown adaptations of Shakespeare's British History plays. I just watched the first round and enjoyed them very much so I'm pretty excited about this. They did Richard II, Henry IV 1 & 2 and Henry V last time and will be doing 2 of the 3 Henry VIs and Richard III the second time.

A few days ago, in unrelated news, it was announced Martin Freeman will play Richard III on a West End stage this summer. Freeman doesn't exactly fit my mental image of Shakespeare's Richard III. I'm not saying I think he can't act the part or anything, just not exactly the normal physical type cast.

BBC announced today that in their previously announced film version of Richard III, the eponymous king will be played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

OK then. I'll roll with it. :)

So much shiny Shakespeare! Wonderfully weird casting- I shall look forward to it!

Cumberbatch is definitely closer to the standard Richard III, and I'm looking forward to the Hollow Crown production, but I also like variety. Here's hoping Freeman's play is available in some format to those of us who can't make it to the theatre!
