Fantastic End to Yesterday's Crap Start

Tags: ,
Just in case anyone was wondering, I'm not still sitting at the gas station from my post yesterday :). A mechanic eventually got over to me and got the bike started so we could get it back to the shop and they called today to say they think they found the real problem and it will be $210 to fix it but they'll apply the $50 I already paid them to not fix it the first time to the new $210 total.

I made it back to my place at about the time I was supposed to be picking up my friend to head to the Cornetto Trilogy screening so I was about 10 minutes late in getting her, but that was fine as we had lots of built in time in our schedule. This friend is really geeky like me and into some of the same things but hasn't really experienced the joy that is Cabin Pressure so we listened to that on the road trip. We got through three episodes on the way there (Abu Dhabi because you kind of need to start with the pilot, Edinburgh because she's a Sherlock fan and I wanted to do Paris later so needed the Birling Day setup, and Johannesburg because it is my favorite) and only two episodes on the way back because traffic was much better at midnight to 1 am than it had been at 3:00 to 4:30pm (the aforementioned Paris and the general fandom favorite Ottery St. Mary). She very much enjoyed it all. :)

In between was, of course, the Cornetto Trilogy. I've seen Shaun of the Dead multiple times but never on the big screen so that was a treat. I've only seen Hot Fuzz once or maybe twice in full so caught a lot that I'd forgotten or missed. The new one, The World's End, started a bit slow, I thought, but was fantastic once it got going and the ending made me so happy. It was a very enthusiastic audience and that made the whole thing even more fun. I think Shaun will stay my favorite of the three even with more viewings, but I really enjoy them all.

Today I'm somewhat paying for yesterday. World's End started at 10pm which is my usual bedtime. Given the long drive and all, I didn't make it to bed until almost 2am and even though I somewhat slept in, I'm exhausted. Also, due to sitting at the gas station for forever in upper 80s / lower 90s temps, I think I got a bit dehydrated. I've been drinking water like mad today but can't seem to stop being thirsty. The tiredness and dehydration are combining to give me a bit of a headache, one of those annoying ones that is bad enough you can't really do anything but not bad enough that you can just go to bed (at least I can't because I suck at taking naps unless I am really sick). So I'm just kind of dragging through today, not really wanting to do anything but with just enough energy and mental awareness to be restless and bored with doing nothing. Oh well. It was worth it. The movies and trip with the friend were worth it anyway. Not the being stranded with the bike bit.

Glad you got back ok and the road trip sounds fun. Few better delights than introducing friends to much loved shows, and CP is so good. I'm looking forward to seeing World's End at some point, but no cinema until the hacking cough is gone :-( It will have to go some to beat Hot Fuzz.

It was great watching (well, mostly listening since I was driving and watching the road) someone else react to CP for the first time.

Shaun is probably going to stay my favorite, but I love them all.
