World's End vs. Responsibility

Tags: , ,
There is an advanced screening of The World's End (third in the Cornetto Trilogy following Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) with a live Q&A with Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost in DC this upcoming Monday evening. DC is a 3 to 4 hour drive for me, depending on where exactly in DC and traffic. The screening is at 7pm. Let's say the Q&A isn't that long so movie and questions are done by around 10. That would mean me getting up to teach class Monday morning, driving the 3 to 4 hours to DC Monday afternoon, attending the screening, driving the 3 to 4 hours back in the middle of night, and maybe getting to bed around 2 am before having to get up and ready in time to teach class at 8:30 am Tuesday. There is absolutely no way I can go to this but I really want to! I'm going to go sulk about having to be a responsible grown up now.

It's not sensible by any stretch of the imagination. Having said that, I think the film is brilliant and if anything was going to be worth driving yourself into the ground for, a screening with a live Q&A would be it.

Of course, I'm the person who did an almost 450 mile round trip to go and see a band, getting home at 5am, so I'm not really the best person to be emphatic about not doing it. I wasn't in work though...

If it were an actual live show that I couldn't see later, I think I'd do it. The Q&A almost makes this worth doing, but if I don't do this I'll still be able to see the movie when it comes out in the US in another month. I can't talk myself into it.

I think you should thrown responsibility out the window and go.

*coughcough* I think you are getting sick. You really should take Tuesday off to get better...

The worst of it is that I'm showing a documentary for most of class on Monday but there's no way I can switch it around to get that to Tuesday which would make the whole thing slightly more doable.
