Into Darkness

We saw it with the kids this weekend. Hub and I had seen The Wrath Of Khan, the teens had not.

I thought it.... was lacking. It was an okay way to waste a few hours but that was about it.

The Khan/not Khan/jk he's really Khan thing really annoyed me.

Kirk's resurrection was silly. I can't imagine anyone really thought he'd stay dead.

I didn't get WHY Bones played around with Khan's blood, especially with a randomly dead tribble- the whole reason for it was just so it could revive and therefore they could revive Kirk which was pretty lame.

The timing of the movie was bad and when actually looked at there were tons of questions. Kirk wonders what was in the bag Khan stole and why he attacked the repository at the very moment Khan attacks? What exactly was the admiral's plan? How did Khan switch the bombs with his people with no one noticing? What was the point of that if he thought they'd actually be used as bombs?

Pegg was awesome. And Chris Pine has very blue eyes. *sighs hapily*

Oh, and I assumed the Enterprise entered the water a ways out and then traveled to the shore underwater. Maybe?

I guess I just didn't really find it lacking because that's what I expected it to be. I wanted a fun way to spend a couple of hours with lots of vaguely scifi action and explosions and a little bit of drama. That's what I felt I got. So I enjoyed myself.

Yeah. I think it was handled fine int he film, but I am still bothered by the publicity stuff.

The timing of the movie was bad
I don't really remember feeling the timing was off overall. I do remember a few specific moments that seemed a little drawn out and overwrought, but as I was watching it I didn't think about my problem with those moments in terms of the timing but rather in terms of the music being annoying. The soundtrack seemed designed to yell at you "Are you feeling the emotion we want you to feel right now? Are you? I don't think you are! Here, let me tell you again how it is you are supposed to be feeling." That is hardly a problem unique to this film for me, though. It happens a lot, especially with comic book or action adventure movies.

Kirk wonders what was in the bag Khan stole
This is one I should have remembered to include in my initial post. What was in the bag? I expected it to turn out to be some data Khan needed or something on him that he wanted to steal so no one could figure out his true ID, but that didn't happen and it just got dropped. I didn't mind the rest of the way that played out, with Khan showing up just as Kirk predicts it because that's what happens in fiction. Everything is more coincidental or purposeful than reality. It's Chekhov's Gun, basically.

I guess I just don't have a problem with the rest of the things to which you object. I felt I had a decent enough understanding of the admiral's plan. Bones playing wwith the serum made sense to me as he said it has the most amazing regenerative capabilities and he wanted to see what all it could do. I don't know. I was OK with all that.
