A Brief Dissertation Rant

I'm working on making a "final" annotated bibliography of all the stuff I've read related to my dissertation topic so I can organize what everyone else has already said about the topic and make sure what I'm trying to say really is original and important and blah, blah, blah. I need to rant for a moment.

If I have to read one more of any of the following, I'm going to scream:
  • Anything discussing the influence of the Netherlands on England, the lingering influence of Dutch culture in New York, etc. with a title along the lines of "Going Dutch."

  • Anything about the Dutch reconquest of New Netherland / New York about a decade after the initial English conquest with a title along the lines of "The Empire Strikes Back."
Note to historians overusing this pun: it doesn't even make sense because the Netherlands wasn't a more powerful empire than the bloody English Empire!

  • A lament about how everyone talks about New England and Virginia in colonial history, the Mayflower and Jamestown, and ignores the gloriously wonderful Middle Colonies which is where the true roots of what will become America can be found.

Ok. Now that that's out of my system, back to dissertating.
