I finished my summer class today. The past five weeks have been the most exhausting slog of my life. Doing an hour and a half lecture every day is basically like researching and outlining a 30 page paper, then making a slideshow of pictures and graphs to illustrate points in said outline, then delivering the lecture. It was so draining and I am so glad it is over. My roommate is out of town today so I proctored his in class final for him and while I sat there, I slapped together a take home final for my students. I don't think the exam is great because I didn't have time or energy to check it for balance in topics so I think it ended up a bit politics heavy and culture light, but it is done. Now all I have to do for this class is grade their final papers and grade their final exams. Cake walk compared to what I've been through.

Since I was going through the long slog, I've neglected posting here and sharing my news with y'all. The big thing is a couple of weeks ago, I was offered a class for the fall. I previously had nothing so getting a class is good because, hey, money for food and rent! This is even better than that, though. I'm being given the chance to teach a freshman writing seminar. I've previously only done the basic introductory American history surveys, which are very proscribed and large student classes. This class is limited to 15 people and is supposed to be writing intensive seminar designed to introduce students to college-level critical thinking, analysis, writing, etc. There are guidelines I have to follow in terms of how much writing I have to require and the like, but otherwise the class from general topic on down is completely up to me!! Not only do I think it is going to be more interesting and fun, this is a huge boost for when I go out on the job market, if I ever get back to that stupid dissertation thing. For my topic, I'm doing American Colonial Rebellions before the Revolution with thematic units within that on Indian insurrections, slave uprisings, and colonist revolts. I think it is going to be a lot of fun, but now I have 2.5 weeks in which to put together the syllabus and stuff for the entire semester when I could really just use a break. Oh well. I think the excitement will keep me going at least for a little bit.

My ankle is doing much better. I can now walk without limping for the most part. Sometimes it still hurts, but more of a dull ache than major pain, unless I step on it wrong. I am still having some trouble with side-to-side movement and I can't jump or run yet. I'm still doing some physical therapy, but that shouldn't last too much longer.

The only bit of not so great news is that my friend is moving out of town in just over a week and he's out of town for the next few days so I'll have just under a week to hang out with him before he's gone. We've been working on lists of all the things we want to do and I'm sure we won't get to all of it, but next week will probably be a few hours of work on grading and syllabus every day and then general fun and debauchery the rest of the day. Good times.

Oh HEY!! I just got an alert in my RSS reader about the last day of beta signups for the JKR PotterMore site. I decided to give it a shot on a lark since it was there and I wasn't doing anything and I just got it. I think I've heard there will be 1 million betas world wide so I guess that's kind of cool. Anyone else get a beta? Anyone want updates and reports on what I find once it is completely up and running?

I guess that's it for now. I'm really hoping now that class is over and I have a comparative break I'll be able to do a little something with fic. I have several stories that are either done and I just need to post or are almost done and have been for ages, but I've just been busy. I'd really like to give day_by_drabble a shot, but I don't know if I'll be able to. Here's hoping.

I just went on the site now and signed up too. I thought it would be full by now, actually, but apparently not! What username did you get? Mine is ThestralErised194.

Everyone else got the cool names (albeit quite a few stripper names so far!). :D Ugh. I'm going to be the Peter Pettigrew of the class.

There's nothing wrong with ThestralErised. I debated between the SparksLumos thing and one other one, but I don't remember what that was now. I just remember I eventually went with this one because the two words actually seemed to go together, though LumosSparks would sound better to me than SparksLumos.

I just saw some random person on an article say they got MarauderWolf. OMG!WANT!! I think I am going to beat up that person and steal his / her name.

I've also seen a PixieMetamorph and an AurorMoon. And you know that none of these names are going to appreciative R/T shippers! :)
