MacGyver's got nothing on me

Tags: , ,
Yesterday morning I broke my glasses. They just snapped down the middle. I have since "fixed" them and am rather proud of myself.

The broken glasses...

I had them taped together most of the day yesterday. That sort of worked, but the break point kept buckling because the tape had no strength to support anything. Last night I kept thinking that I needed a small bit of tubing, maybe like a plastic straw, to hold the two bits together. It occurred to me that I might have some tubing in one of my Lego kits. I couldn't find anything like that, but I realized the broken ends fit perfectly in a regular sized Lego hole. I dug through my bricks and found a regular one-by-one brick with a hole going through.

You can't really see the hole in the right side due to shadows, but trust me, it's there. I stuck the nose pieces in the side holes, and voila, glasses! Only problem was that it hurt my nose a little. So I took the soft half of some sticky Velcro I had and put it on the side that rubs my nose. Perfection!

I wouldn't suggest this for long term, but for the week to ten days until my replacement glasses are in, I think this is much better than tape.

So, did I achieve a new level of geekdom?

PS The glasses were under warranty so a replacement pair cost me about $20 rather than the $250 they originally cost.

LOL Inventive. And tape on the glasses is geeky, so why not at least make it funny by using a Lego instead?
