I'm in a major rush but I really wanted to check in with y'all and let you know where things stand with me.

Back from NYC. The Dutch language workshop was totally overwhelming but amazingly helpful. I have tons of strategies, and information, and handouts that will make my translationg and handreading stuff much more productive in the future. I made it to the Neil Gaiman thing and it was awesome. I also got to see John Hodgman and some other comedians perform while I was there, met a friend for lunch and nearly got pelted by water balloons one day, and wandered around Harlem on my tourist day. It was all fantastic.

Since I've been back in Williamsburg, I've been going crazy. One of my summer roommate is awesome. The other sucks and leaves huge messes that I'm apparently expected to clean up. I'm surviving. I've been really busy unpacking, cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking and all that stuff that has to happen after you've been away for a couple of weeks. I'm only just getting back into the swing of things but expect next week to be much more productive as far as the dissertation is concerned.

I'm hopelessly addicted to Doctor Who and it is only getting worse :)

I got the results of my most recent biopsy after the latest abnormal pap. The biopsy basically confirmed the abnormal cervical cells and the doctor wants to do cryosurgery to freeze them off to prevent them from becoming a problem (read cancer) down the line. That procedure is scheduled for 12 Aug and isn't that big of a deal. Despite the name, there is no slicing me open involved and I'm not overly concerned. The good news is my folks have decided to go ahead and drive out here to give me my new car, take back my old car, and be here for me for the procedure. The bad news (aside from the obvious) is that this is messing up my summer plans since I was supposed to go to Albany in August and still need to go back to DC so I can't move up the Albany trip. I've sent an email asking the history department what I can do about the money they gave me for Albany (use it for Albany later, use it for the NYC and DC trips, or return it are the possible outcomes I'm expecting).

Uh... I think that's it. If you want more details on anything, ask in the comments.

Good luck with the cryo ♥.

Thanks. Like I said, I'm not overly worried about it because it isn't real surgery, but I'm sure it will still be unpleasant, painful, and generally sucky. Still, it's better than cancer.

Is it wrong that I'm happy your Doctor Who addiction is getting worse? It's just so awesome.

Not wrong at all. I couldn't work at the library yesterday so I literally just watched Doctor Who all day and watched an entire season. I have the year of the specials left for the Tenth Doctor and that's it. Since the current season isn't on Netflix yet, I'm not sure what I'll do after that. Maybe start on some classic Who?

Wow, you burned through those things! I got stuck on season 3 when I was watching (mostly due to my irrational dislike of Martha at that point, though I love her now). Next time you're in DC we'll watch season 5. The last episode is today. I'm so excited, but I have a birthday thing to go to so I won't be able to watch it until very late at night. Booo!

I like starting point Martha better than starting point Rose, but I like ending point Rose much better than ending point Martha.

Hooray for DC-area trip and season 5!

Are you hooked on the current Doctor Who series then, or did the obsessing start with another Doctor? I ask this due to not so long ago having a conversation with someone, and only belatedly realising she was on about Ten and I was on about Eleven. After she'd given me some very strange looks, lol.

I thought your luck with roommates had changed for the better, but it just seems to have evened out into good and bad? ;)

Best wishes for the surgery. :) It's nice to hear your parents will be there for you.

My friend Julia (aka littlepixiechic) started me at the beginning of the restart of Who so thus far I've seen the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. I'm watching it on Netflix. I've got one year (the specials) left for Ten and then Netflix stops for now. I'm not sure when I'll get to see the current stuff, but I think there is some classic Who available for instant viewing. Maybe I'll give that s shot.

My other summer roommate is a great roommate. The problem one will only be here for another week, so I'll survive.
