Epic Weekend Was Epic and Other Stuff

Tags: , , ,
I am so tired. This past weekend consisted of nothing but hanging out with friends, eating way too much junk food, watching movies, playing games, and generally goofing off. Since it was a three-day weekend and the last weekend before some people were leaving town for a while, my friends and I had plans to do a few things such as moving some stuff for one on Saturday morning (which resulted in me getting an old couch to put in my office in front of the fire place which is cool!), a picnic on Saturday afternoon, and maybe a movie or something somewhere in there. Instead it turned into two picnics, a couple of other small bonfires in my backyard with s'mores, lots of eating out at restaurants, four or five movies (depends on when we classify the weekend as starting), lots of board and video games, and a sleepover at my place. I usually go to bed between 9:30 and 10:30 and get up between 6:30 and 7:30. I don't think I got to bed before 2:00 am for about four days straight. Unfortunately, I still got up around 7:30 most mornings so I am completely exhausted. The night of the sleepover, I got up at 6:45 and played on the computer, went running for about 40 minutes, and took a shower before everyone else got up. I'd love to do another weekend like this, but I think my body needs at least a month to recover from the lack of sleep and massive quantities of junk food first. Also, some of my friends may not want an actual repeat of this weekend ever. The main reason the weekend got so epic and the sleepover happened was because a couple of my friends had a gas leak at their apartment that sent a four-month-old in another apartment to the hospital and they already had another friend crashing with them so all three of them ended up homeless for a night and without hot water for several days so I offered my place since I am currently without roommates, but I'd rather focus on the fun.

While I might think I need a month to recover from the weekend, I think I have less than a week. I'm almost certainly spending next week in the DC area staying with a friend (littlepixiechic) so I can do some research at the Library of Congress. The following week, I'll be in NYC for my 17th-Century Dutch workshop. I'm pretty excited about both trips but have about 50,000 things to do before them, mostly consisting of getting a more detailed idea of which sources I need to look at in DC versus the ones that have been printed in books and brushing up on my Dutch.

The weekend in between the two trips I have to be here to let my new summer roommate into the house. Both my actual roommates have internships out of the area for the summer. Kim arranged to have a subletter who is the one I have to let in. I don't think Kin left her key for this person and we don't have a spare key so I'm going to have to figure out something with that but that shouldn't be too difficult. My other roommate, Rajiv, hasn't arranged for a sublettor yet and told me he'd be back before his internship started on June 1 but he didn't come back. Which also means he didn't leave me a check for June's rent so I'm going to have to email him about that. I don't really have time to deal with all this, but somehow I'll make it work. One possible cool thing to come out of all this is if Rajiv can't get a subletter in June, one of my friends may sublet from mid July to late August which would increase the likelihood of more epic weekend level shenanigans.

Saving the best news for last: I have a new car!! Sort of. A brand new car (it had 5 miles on it when picked up) has been purchased for me and it is an awesome and amazing car. Or so I have been led to believe based on descriptions and photos I have received. Unfortunately said car is in Texas and I am in Virginia and this is a problem. My parents had a full-sized van that was too big for their needs anymore with my sister and I not living at home. They decided to trade in the van on a car, but they also decided that they didn't like me being out here so far from my free mechanic (aka Dad) with a ten-year-old car, so they got the new car with the intention of trading me the new one for my old one. At some point I need to drive my old car to Texas and drive back in the new car but I have no idea when that'll happen. I'm still supposed to go to Albany at some point this summer and I haven't worked out any of the details for that trip plus I might need a second DC trip. If the Texas roadtrip doesn't happen before classes start at the end of August, it will have to wait until I go home for Christmas which wouldn't be the end of the world but it is really frustrating knowing that I have a new car but I can't actually have it.

When I saw on FB you'd had an epic weekend I was hoping for the LJ post specifying. Sounds awesome!

Yay for a new car! What kind is it? And my ears have perked up at "road trip to Texas" -- might that take you through my neck of the woods??
