Facebook Is Weirding Me Out

All you Facebook users, you know the redesign with the lovely righthand "Highlights" column? For the past several hours, despite changes in the rest of the info on my homepage over there, the top item in that column has been "Justin is single." I don't know why, but I find it oddly creepy that Facebook is determined that I need to know that my almost-19-year-old first cousin is available.

What's Taters, Precious?

I've got some code in Firefox to hide everything from the Highlights column. It makes the new design actually quite nice.

The problem with that for me would be that requests, people you may know, and events are all in that column. I use requests frequently, sometimes find friends in the people you may know, and get birthday reminders from the events (which is now buried so far down below highlights as to be almost useless anyway). I hate the clutter of the overall layout and hate the highlights sections specifically, but I need the rest of the info that is in that column.

I just generally hate the new redesign. But then, I'm resistant to change in my Internet stuff.

There are elements of it where I see what they were trying to do, but they failed for a number of reasons. If they at all listen to feedback and make a few changes, it could be a better layout than the previous one. I doubt they'll listen enough or make enough changes, though. Better get used to it, I guess.
