My Lovely Weekend
I mailed in my grant application on Friday afternoon. No idea when I'll hear back on that, but it will probably be a while. Honestly, I don't expect to get it so if I don't I will be disappointed but not surprised. If I do get it, I will be so excited I will probably run around my apartment and jump up-and-down on my bed for a few hours straight. That is what I did when I got my acceptance letter from William and Mary's PhD program, anyway. I spent most of my time in the slow line at the post office talking with the lady behind me, whose husband is a chemistry professor at the college. Our conversation began when she saw me stuffing my materials into an envelope and recognized it as some kind of grant or grad school application and wished me luck. It was nice.
After turning in the application Friday, I drove up to Maryland (greater DC / Baltimore area) to visit Julia (a.k.a.
littlepixiechic and my awesome roommate from my first year in Williamsburg). I had a fantastic day-and-half or so up there. We had dinner Friday night and then stayed up until 3:00 am having one of those rambling conversations about anything and everything. Saturday we had brunch and played board games all day then I came home. This weekend we established:
Now doesn't that sound like a nice little trip? We're already planning my next trip up when the weather gets nice in a few weeks and we can go to the zoo and check out the cherry blossoms. After all the driving and the late night on Friday, I slept late today and am just taking it easy. I'm reading a little, watching TV a little, and will eventually go out for a few groceries. Monday is plenty soon enough to get back to the real world and my dissertation.

- Rachael is freaking out about turning 27 in a week, whether she really wants to admit it or not, and shouldn't be because 27 doesn't have to mean leaving mid-twenties and entering late-twenties. That can wait until 27-and-a-half.
- Red Robin has good milkshakes.
- Julia really wants either a new cell or iPod.
- Rachael wants a Palm Pre.
- January 1 should not be "Happy New Year's Day!" but should be "Happy Jesus' Circumcision Day!"
- Whatever IHOP we went to has crappy service on Saturday mornings.
- Rachael sucks at Life and will never be able to have a career as an MD because she always gives up her practice to become a movie star, or an athlete, or some other ridiculous thing.
- Tubular is a fantastic word!
- Friday evening DC traffic slows you down more than Saturday night pouring rain.
