Thanks and Politics

1) Thanks so much to everyone for the replies to my last post. I'll get to individual replies tomorrow, but I just want to say in general that I really appreciate y'all's comments. I knew there was no way I'd ever been the only one in this kind of situation, but to get the encouragement and advice from some of you that have felt similarly really helps.

2) Part of why I didn't reply today is because I went to a Barack Obama rally this morning. I left at 9:30, got there around 10:30, he finally took the stage a little after 1:00 and I think I got home after 3:30 so it was a long day. I stood in the sun for hours, listened to a few other speakers that I didn't really care about, and then stood on tiptoes to try to catch a glimpse of Barack over the heads of the people in front of me while he talked for a while. I was impressed by his speech. He talked almost exclusively about Health Care and this was apparently the beginning of a theme the campaign plans to pursue for a while (see this article for more info on the rally and the campaign tactic in general). He was amazingly able to discuss policy in detail and still keep the crowd fired up and make complex issues something everyone could understand without dumbing things down or seeming like he was talking down to people. Overall, I could get better views of him if I stayed home and watched my TV or played on the internet and he didn't say much I haven't heard before and I'm definitely sunburned, but I'm still very glad I went. It was fun to see and talk with other random supporters and it was just one of those things you have to experience if you have the chance if for no other reason than you can say "I was there and a part of it."
