The Livingroom Reveal!

Tags: ,
As you might remember from this floor plan post, I got new living room furniture this weekend! Thankfully the furniture was all in the apartment by the end of the day Friday before Tropical Storm Hannah arrived on Saturday. The sectional (couch and chaise lounge) arrived Friday morning, the roommate, her boyfriend, and I went to the thrift store Friday afternoon to buy the entertainment center and a friend came in his truck to get it to our apartment while it was lightly raining. Everything is now moved in and I love it! As promised, here are a few before and after photos of the living room.

Before: The big empty cavern

Is that not the most fantastic transformation ever? My roommate thinks the walking space is a bit tight now. If we were talking about a space to live in for 20 years and to raise kids in, I would certainly agree. Since we are talking about a space for a couple of graduate students to live in for a year or two, I think it is fine. And I'll take a bit cramped feeling (cozy is my word of choice) over what is was before any day!

In completely unrelated news: like my new icon? It is a quote from Stephen Colbert's I am America (And So Can You) and I plan on using it for grad school and dissertation related posts among other things.
Happy
Feeling: Happy
Exploring: The new livingroom of course!

Wow - what a transformation! It looks fantastic! I think using the space and having is cosy is a much better option and it really does look like a room you can be comfortable hanging out in now.

Thanks. I love it. I think Kelly will enjoy it more once she gets used to it. I can't see how anyone could prefer the previous arrangement.

It looks cozy and inviting...just waiting for you to curl up with a book and a cuppa. Is that a 'Star Wars' fleece, BTW?
I think I made that same fabric into a throw once-upon. :)

It is now a very nice space for working, relaxing, and entertaining. What more could you ask for?

That is a Star Wars fleece. :) My sister's husband's brother gave it to me for Christmas last year or the year before.

Have you ever heard of Piled Higher and Deeper a.k.a. PhD Comics? If not, it is a webcomic all about life in grad school. Most of the characters are engineering grad students (there is one anthropology student) and a few comics are math/science specific, but most of them are applicable to any grad student life and are hilarious - and sometimes painfully true. The woman in the poster is Cecilia, one of the main characters. You can read the comics and find merchandise at phdcomics.com

I just checked and it looks like they don't have any of the posters anymore, which stinks. But there are other goodies. One of my favorite T-shirts is one I got from there that says "Grad School: It seemed better than getting a real job."
What's Taters, Precious?

Ooh, love the sectional! We've been looking for something in that configuration in chenille, but haven't found it yet.

I'm no help. All I can say is I love mine, but I know nothing about chenille.

Long time no chat, by the way. We should do something about that. Which I realize would require that I sign into AIM or something.

I was thinking today that you haven't signed in in AGES! Do it, do it!

I love the new layout and sectional...

My main concern though is... where did Rock Band go? You can't hide that sucker!

Thanks :)

I was practically standing on the drums when I took the photo that says from the closet. Because you were curious and my mom wanted to see the new entertainment center, I took one more photo.

It looks great! And eh, who needs walking space when you have huge, comfy couches to lounge around on instead?

Thanks :) I agree completely!

Ooooh, it looks cozy and comfy now! Much better than my living room!

You could always come visit and find out how comfy and cozy it really is. Of course, what you'd want to do in good ol' Williamsburg is beyond me.

I was actually just going to e-mail you and tell you that I'm thinking it's definitely time for me to come down and bother you for a day (and, of course, see the new furniture in person!). Let me know when might be a good day for me to invade.

Cool! I'm going to Disney World 19 September to 27 September so not then would be good. Other than that, I'm pretty much open.

Ok, I promise I wasn't ignoring this, I was just trying to get my schedule all figured out.

I'm busy the weekend after the 27th as well as the weekend after that. I don't know what Mondays look like for you, but I could make a visit on the 6th otherwise its looking like the 17th and 18th of October. When did I get so busy!

I'm glad that the damage to your parents' house didn't turn out to be too terrible so that you can all go to Disney World mostly as planned.

I'm literally just doing my own research this year so I'm free pretty much all the time. So if you want to come on a Monday, that's fine. Assuming nothing else goes wrong, Oct. 6 should work for me.

I'm leaving in half an hour to catch my plane and just hoping nothing else goes wrong in the meantime. My folks' van wouldn't start this morning and they had to get a ride to the airport from my uncle at the last minute so the van is on the list of things to worry about when we return to the real world.
