Of bikes and books and kids
The other day I posted a Facebook status that was something along the lines of "Rachael can't help it. When she walks out the door wearing her jacket, carrying her helmet, slipping on her shades, and strolling to her motorcycle, she feels like a little bit of a bad ass." Today, I went out for dinner and as I was leaving the restaurant, I was swinging my helmet, skipping, and repeating in a singsong voice "I don't have to teach tomorrow! I don't have to teach tomorrow!" Not only did that dispel any illusion I may have had of bad assery, it should serve to illustrate just how giddy I am at the idea of a day off and how ready I am for the summer to be over.* Don't get me wrong, I love my job teaching for IRD, but the long drives, the mental acrobatics necessary to teach my over 100 students at varying levels of reading development, and everything else that goes into this job is so draining and I just need a break! I've got one-and-a-half weeks to go and it just can’t come soon enough.
*This example serves so well to dispel bad ass illusions and illustrate my giddiness that I think I'll just skip the bit about me hollering "Whee" going around corners and "Vroom" when accelerating while I was driving home. Yes. Best not to mention that part.
