Of bikes and books and kids

Tags: ,
The other day I posted a Facebook status that was something along the lines of "Rachael can't help it. When she walks out the door wearing her jacket, carrying her helmet, slipping on her shades, and strolling to her motorcycle, she feels like a little bit of a bad ass." Today, I went out for dinner and as I was leaving the restaurant, I was swinging my helmet, skipping, and repeating in a singsong voice "I don't have to teach tomorrow! I don't have to teach tomorrow!" Not only did that dispel any illusion I may have had of bad assery, it should serve to illustrate just how giddy I am at the idea of a day off and how ready I am for the summer to be over.* Don't get me wrong, I love my job teaching for IRD, but the long drives, the mental acrobatics necessary to teach my over 100 students at varying levels of reading development, and everything else that goes into this job is so draining and I just need a break! I've got one-and-a-half weeks to go and it just can’t come soon enough.

*This example serves so well to dispel bad ass illusions and illustrate my giddiness that I think I'll just skip the bit about me hollering "Whee" going around corners and "Vroom" when accelerating while I was driving home. Yes. Best not to mention that part.
Giddy beyond belief

I'm convinced that all of those huge hairy biker guys with the tatts and Harleys at least occasionally shout a mental "Whee!" as they go around a sharp corner!

There are few things like impending holiday time to give you a mood boost!

I don't know why anyone would ride a motorcycle if they weren't going to give in to the occasional "Whee!" impulse!

Hi Racel! Older than you are but fellow grad student, teacher, writer, and admirer of Dr. Jones . Mind if I friend you?
I even bring a gift-words of wisdom from one of my students.
"Gandalf is the Mack Daddy of Middle Earth"
(I inquire as to why this is so)
"Cuz he gots that big pimpin' stick, dawg"

I've no problems with you friending me. Seems like we've got a lot in common so I'll friend back and we can see how it goes.
