It's like Harry Potter but with Greek Gods!

Tags: ,
I read a book in the bookstore today. I really shouldn't have. I knew before I started that I really shouldn’t, but I did it anyway. I've been on this Greek Mythology kick lately and… well… anybody ever heard of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books?

Percy Jackson is a kid with a few problems, mostly things seem to go wrong around him so he's been labeled a juvenile delinquent. Also, he has dyslexia and ADHD. Only after he is attacked by Furies and a Minotaur and finds out that his best friend is a satyr does he find out that all of those things are signs that he's a demigod with an unknown but obviously divine father. He ends up at Camp Half-Blood, the only place on earth demigods can be truly safe and train to be heroes. There he trains for a while and tries to make sense of this new world, is finally claimed by his father, finds out that a war is brewing between the Gods, and is sent off on a Quest. The first book is almost 400 pages and I read it in a few hours lounging in the big chairs at B&N (yes, I'm one of those people who read books at the bookstore without buying them but only if the library doesn't have it in). I really liked it and would love to talk about it with someone else so please tell me someone has read it or is intrigued enough to pick it up now. I'm going to have to get the entire series now which is what I was afraid would happen and the whole reason I knew I shouldn't have read the darn thing!

The title sounds almost like a fake book, but I'm intrigued! I'll see if they have it at the library.

I promise that is really the name of the series. The first book is The Lightning Thief.

While trying not to be too amazed that my library, which often does NOT have books, does actually have this series, I shall place a hold. :)

Cool :) Let me know if you get them and what you think.

Did you see my post about God Behaving badly? It is another book I read recently and is what got me going on my current mythology kick.
