Today just keeps getting better!

Tags: , , ,
  1. LJ has introduced comment editing (for paid members only thus far). Finally I can fix my typos (as long as I catch them before anyone else replies to the comment)! LJ has also added private messaging which might be cool. I'll have to wait and see on that one. And there is a "report adult comment" link coming soon to all posts that is going to send the wank flying again, but let's focus on the good LJ change for now.

  2. My Spurs are currently winning won!

  3. The Country Music Association Awards are tonight. My favorite musician of all time is being honored with a front row seat due to his 50 years in country music. No idea if he will ever show up on TV or not, but I've got a pic of him on the red carpet :)

  4. I have a syllabus! I need to make two or three adjustments (like put in my actual office hours rather than the 12:00-12:01 am place holders currently listed), but otherwise I have written my syllabus for my class. It has a daily reading schedule and objectives and policy statements and assignments and info on grades and all kinds of important and authoritative sounding stuff. It is 8 pages and I am rather proud of it.

Add all this to my box from Katrina and Kasey and this is just a kick-ass day.
Feeling: Bouncy
Exploring: Bed
Listening: Spurs game and CMA Awards

I'm intriuged by this 'report adult content' button. Are we supposed to report our own adult content to, like, register it? Will there then be some kind of flashing warning on the post so the sweet and innocent can avoid it? Or will it be like a stage trapdoor - someone pushes the button, and you disappear forever.... ;)

Since it isn't ready for release yet, the details are somewhat sketchy. From what I've gathered...

When you make a post (or a new journal or community) with "adult content" in it, you may label it as such. When people register for LJs, they are/will be required to state if they are over 18. Anyone under 18 will be blocked from seeing anything labeled as adult content. There is also something about people being able to select to have adult content on their flists collapsed behind cuts and maybe the same thing for people not logged in with an LJ account but I am not positive on that.

Anyone other than the author of a post will see a "Flag as inappropriate" link on the post along with all the next, previous, tag, edit, email to a friend, comment, etc. links. Should the author not label his or her post as adult content and a reader feel it is adult content, the reader can click that button and it will send a report to the LJ Abuse team to investigate the post.

I have no idea if investigations will result in forced labeling of posts, bannings, or what. I also have no idea how LJ is defining adult content.

Supposedly more details to come when the system goes live. Which is supposed to be within a week or so I think.

I suspect the devil of this thing really will be in the detail and how they're defining adult content. Some of my stuff is marked r-rated (some discussion have veered that way too, albeit it in a humourous and good-natured way), but I consider it to be suitable for people around the age of fifteen or so - I don't think I've ever written anything that I'd consider inappropriate for anyone but the over 18s, but it's so difficult to judge because everyone has different standards.

I daresay the LJ Abuse team are going to be inundated. I really feel for them.

I daresay the LJ Abuse team are going to be inundated.

I agree completely. Between people wanting to whitewash the internet, people mad at someone and hoping to cause a hard time for that person, and people wanting to annoy the LJ abuse time... the work they're going to have to do sorting through the junk isn't going to be worth whatever real stuff they do find.

EDIT: I just had to try the whole edit comment thing.
