Things I Learned Tonight...

Tags:
  • When stranded by a sudden rain storm making it impossible to ride your motorcycle home, there are much worse places to be stuck than at Panera with a friend, stuff to do for work, and a copy of PoA to read when work is done

  • When the rain ends and you step outside to see how cold it is and decide that you don't need to put the windbreaker liner back in your ventilated riding jacket, remember that when you get on the road going 60 mph that slightly cool air will be blowing through you at 60 mph and rethink that decision unless you want to freeze to death before making it home

  • Riding after dark on a motorcycle isn't as scary as you might have been worried

  • When you see little bits of fog in your headlight and your first thought is "It's like riding among clouds" and your second is "Sirius on his flying motorbike!" you are a DORK! Not that that was a new revelation

  • Your Dad knows what he is talking about. When riding on a fairly empty road so you are the only one waiting at the traffic light to turn left, you will eventually have to run the light. The sensors do not recognize the presence of a motorcycle and will never change for you. Just wait until traffic is clear and go or else you could be sitting there all night. It really isn't that bad and even if a cop does see you, 99% of them will not stop you because they completely understand.

I didn't know that motorcycles don't trip the light sensors.

They're too light. The sensors are set to acknowledge the weight of a car so poor motorcyclists are screwed. The safety class I took to get my license is taught by a bunch of motorcycle cops. When my dad took the class, he asked them about the stoplight thing and they flat out told him, wait a bit to see if the light will cycle or a car comes up behind you and triggers the light and if nothing happens and the intersection is clear, just run the light.

You do realize this means Motorcycle Diaries: Rachael Edition, don't you?

I'd buy it. ;)

I realized this was the third motorcycle post in a row and worried that people would get annoyed with me. Since you said you'd buy it, I'll assume that's at least one person not totally sick of me yet. I promise I won't keep it up forever. I just got the bike so I have to go on about it for a bit.

Probably more interesting than all my cat posts!

You're a biker chick who also knows how to make a damn good bullet list with all the pertinent points included. Well done. ;)

And I totally would have been thinking "flying bike!" too.

I is a multi-talented biker chick! Go me.

I don't know how one could not think "flying bike" under those circumstances. The only question for a Harry potter fan is whether one thinks Sirius on his bike or Hagrid and baby Harry on the bike. I suspect most general series fans would think of Hagrid and Harry whereas the MWPP, Order, older character subset of fandom would jump to Sirius.

P.S. I love that icon. Too funny. I'll try to jump onto your icon post to comment on the rest some time, but I figured I would mention this one now since you used it.

That would be us, wouldn't it? :D

Glad you like the "fix it" icon (my favorite, too). (Can't resist using another one. So addictive ...) I'm still learning, though. But at least I've got the basics down. Go me! lol
