Birthday Thanks and a Meme

Tags: ,
First up, thanks to kileaiya, cuteej4, vivnow, gilpin25, jdbracknell, gijane7702, godricgal, mrstater, bratanimus, and molly_coddles (hopefully I didn't miss anyone) for the lovely birthday wishes. I really appreciate all the warm wishes and I had a good day. I got some decent comps prep done and one of my friends dragged me away from my books long enough to buy me an ice cream, which was very nice.

Also, special thinks to wildmagelet for the lj v-gift. I wouldn't normally make a big deal out of this, but I want to draw extra attention to it because of the type of v-gift she selected. For those of you that may not know, March 8, in addition to being my birthday, is International Women's Day and March is National Women's History Month in the US. In honor of this, LJ is donating all proceeds from this particular v-gift, an image of Rosie the Riveter, to Women for Women International, a charitable organization that helps women in war-torn areas rebuild their physical and emotional worlds. In other words it's not so much that wildmagelet bought me a pretty little picture to be displayed for a few days on my user info page, which would definitely have given me warm fuzzies and a smile, but more that, in honor of my birthday, she is giving a donation to a charity to help women who could really use some help. How cool is that? Thanks so much, Laura!

And now, I bring you a meme. Ganked this one from littlepixiechic, who, for some unknown reason, has challenged me to write a fic about the Giant Squid and its love of pickles. Don't hold your breath on that one, Julia.

Post a comment and...

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll challenge you to try something.
3. I'll pick a colour that I associate with you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this in your journal.

I realize some of these were on another meme floating around the flist not too long ago, but some of it is new.

I bought that particular lj v-gift for kileaiya! Hehe.
I'm glad you had a good day

  1. You have a random icon. How's that for random?

  2. I don't know what to challenge you... How about pick a food you hated as a kid and therefore haven't eaten in years and give it a try to see if your tastes have changed. Oh, I like this challenge now that it has occurred to me. I may use it again.

  3. White - all pristine and clean and shiny.

  4. You are always upbeat. Not in an "annoying, perky, I'll smile even if a madman breaks into my house and kills every member of my family" kind of way, but just in a nice, happy kind of way.

  5. You friended me because of a "fight" I was having with Jo about which show is better: Heroes or Studio 60.

  6. Some type of sleek big cat like a panther or leopard. I have no idea why, that is just the first animal that popped into my head.

  7. What do you plan on doing when you finish school? Or, if you haven't thought that far ahead, what is your intended focus area for grad school?

  8. Because it has pathetically taken me over a month to get around to answering this meme and you may not even remember it, you should not feel obligated to post in your journal, though you are of course still allowed to do so if you want to.

  1. You have an adorable pet bunny.

  2. Let's see... in this post you used a Kingsley icon. You should write a Kingsley-centric fanfic/drabble/whatever.

  3. Orange because of your LJ

  4. You're always there if I need/want someone to chat with. Whether I have some serious I need to vent about, or just want to be silly, you're there.

  5. I clearly remember you reading all my fanfic and leaving me lovely little reviews. Had we had much interaction before that?

  6. Did I say Tigger because of your LJ and being full of energy or somthing like that last time we did a meme with this type of a question? I think I might have and I want to repeat that answer because it is true.

  7. Back to number 5, did we have much contact before you read my stories and I'm just forgetting right now because I'm tired? If we did, what? I'm really confused and curious now.

  8. Because it has pathetically taken me over a month to get around to answering this meme and you may not even remember it, you should not feel obligated to post in your journal, though you are of course still allowed to do so if you want to.

I may just take you up on number 2. :)

The wonderful thing about Tiggers are that Tiggers are wonderful things! :D Tigger is my favourite Pooh character, followed closely by Eeyore.

As per 7- I do believe the first contact we had was me commenting on your stories.

Now I'm looking forward to a good Kingsley fic. Cool.

I like Eeyore best, followed closely by Tigger :P

At least I wasn't forgetting anything :)

What a great gift. With my usual appalling LJ ignorance, I didn't realise you could do things like that, but I've been having a look this morning and there's some very nice ideas. Hope they come up with a Virtual!Remus soon.

Glad you had a good day. :)
Rachael
bratty_jedi at 9:26 pm on 05 April 2007 (UTC) (Link)
  1. You have weird neighborhood cats.

  2. I challenge you to start an online petition that LJ make a virtual!Remus gift. Or maybe not ;)

  3. Do people usually associate colors with other people? This is an odd question. I guess I'll go with red today because the lady in your userpic is wearing read.

  4. You can have a rather dry sense of humor and make me giggle.

  5. I suppose my earliest memories of you are more about you than of you. I remember mrstater pimping you and your House of Cards fic. Then y'all were conspiring in comments over at rt_challenge to write silly werewolves mating for life fic. By the time you got an LJ, you had quite the reputation. Good thing you've lived up to it.

  6. I think last time I cheated and said tan robots. I suppose I should give you a real animal this time. How about horses since you appear to be the flist's resident expert?

  7. How do I go about rigging this whole Grand National thing so I get a fic/pic present rather than havening to make something?

  8. Because it has pathetically taken me over a month to get around to answering this meme and you may not even remember it, you should not feel obligated to post in your journal, though you are of course still allowed to do so if you want to.

Do you know, this popped up on my screen, and I read, "You have weird neighbourhood cats," and thought well, yes, I do, but why is she suddenly mentioning that when I don't think I featured them in my last post, lol.

By the time you got an LJ, you had quite the reputation. Good thing you've lived up to it.

Now you see this astounds me - and is worrying. Although it would be absolutely terrifying if you'd associated me with house elf slash. But I was just an anonymous reviewer, with the emphasis on the anonymous part, so how anyone knew who I was is beyond me.

I'm sure I've well and truly lived down to it, anyway. ;)

How do I go about rigging this whole Grand National thing so I get a fic/pic present rather than havening to make something?

If anyone's rigging this thing, it's me. I just don't know how I'll choose a pressie though; I was looking at whose signed up last night and thinking Yay! At the moment, it looks as though we'll all get two horses each - a fancied one and an outsider - so you'll have two noble steeds running for you. You're not getting two pressies, though, if you finish first and second!

I bet I end up with a three-legged centaur, and his best pal, the sleepy little donkey ...

I rather suspected that me finally getting around to doing this would confuse some people. Sorry about that :)

While you're rigging so that you win, would you consider rigging so that I get somewhere in top 5? Please?

So, happy birthday! I hope you had a good one. :D

  1. I saw you mention Girl Scouts the other day and smiled because I was in Girl Scouts for 12 years.

  2. Does "finish I Know Why The Caged Wolf Sings" count as a challenge? No real rush. I just don't think I ever got around to commenting at metamorfic_moon and now seemed a good time to tell you I think you've set up a very compelling story there and I would love to read the rest whenever you get to it. Unless you already have and I missed it somehow...

  3. Olive. That was the closest I could find to a color in your layout int he options given for friends colors so that is your background color on my flist.

  4. You have a lot going on but seem to always keep on top of it and stay on track.

  5. I'm not really sure. It was just one of those running in the same circles and slowly becoming aware of each other's existence kind of things I suppose.

  6. A bird. I don't know why and I don't know specifics, but I am thinking bird.

  7. What is the first thing you want to do when you move into an apartment/house/whatever of your own?

  8. Because it has pathetically taken me over a month to get around to answering this meme and you may not even remember it, you should not feel obligated to post in your journal, though you are of course still allowed to do so if you want to.

Real life obligations suck! I'm so far behind that I haven't even picked up the new Star Wars book yet! Something I plan to rectify this weekend. A thousand apologies for missing your big day. Hope it was a good 'un.

  1. Your icoon of Remus and his eyebrow that you originally did as a tease of the radiator!sex pic is completely awesome!

  2. I'd challenge you to draw something, but that rather seems like cheating as I know how busy you are and that you draw whenever you have the chance already. Uh... oh, yeah, I decided I like this one: pick a food you hated as a kid and therefore haven't eaten in years and give it a try to see if your tastes have changed.

  3. Pinks and purples because I love what you do with Tonks' clothes and earrings usually in shades of those two colors.

  4. You draw R/T exceptionally well, you read Star Wars novels and like Han/Leia, you play percussion... what's not to like?

  5. I suppose that would be the cocoa break pic you drew to illustrate one of mrstater's fics.

  6. I'm tempted to say something Star Wars, like Ewoks or something. Heck, I never was good at resisting temptation so you can be that one Ewok at the end of Return of the Jedi playing the drums made out of Stormtrooper helmets.

  7. What is your favorite scene from any Star Wars novel and why?

  8. Because it has pathetically taken me over a month to get around to answering this meme and you may not even remember it, you should not feel obligated to post in your journal, though you are of course still allowed to do so if you want to.

What am I supposed to do again? I'll just reply to some of your comments for now.

Your icon of Remus and his eyebrow that you originally did as a tease of the radiator!sex pic is completely awesome!

I need to update it a bit, as it was in the early stages when I made it. I think there's a little more detail now.

I hated Liver and Rhubarb (together or separate) and as they're not vital to my good health, there's no way I'm going to try them again. Next?

Pinks and purples because I love what you do with Tonks' clothes and earrings usually in shades of those two colors.

two colors I don't have in my wardrobe.

You draw R/T exceptionally well, you read Star Wars novels and like Han/Leia, you play percussion... what's not to like?

I'm not going to answer that on the off chance that I may lose your admiration and respect.

I suppose that would be the cocoa break pic you drew to illustrate one of mrstater's fics.

I've done better since then but that one still holds a special place in my heart since it was my first Remus and Tonks piece.

I'm tempted to say something Star Wars, like Ewoks or something. Heck, I never was good at resisting temptation so you can be that one Ewok at the end of Return of the Jedi playing the drums made out of Stormtrooper helmets.

The thing that ruined ROTJ for me, apart from making Han into the comic relief, were the Ewoks. I usually don't watch this one very often.

What is your favorite scene from any Star Wars novel and why?

Holy crap! That's a tough one, as there are so many books to chose from. Erm...how 'bout the birth of the twins? It was a nice H/L moment with no C3PO butting in and we both know those kinds of moments are few and far between. I could narrow it down if I stuck to Troy Denning's books. he usually gives them some good stuff. Oh! I just remembered that scene from Tatooine Ghost when Han's recovering from his dessert exposure and Leia comes in to check on him and they get a little flirty and what happens next is left to the readers imagination.

Because it has pathetically taken me over a month to get around to answering this meme and you may not even remember it, you should not feel obligated to post in your journal, though you are of course still allowed to do so if you want to.

I'm game, if only I could remember what to do. Clue me in, won't you?

You're entirely welcome. I'm just glad that you had a good day! :) And yes, I was looking at a calendar right after I sent that off and realised that your birthday actually is International Women's Day, so that worked out well! It's a good thing that they're doing, I hope they do it for more charities during the year.

  1. You might be the only person I know from New Zealand.

  2. Pick a food you hated as a kid and therefore haven't eaten in years and give it a try to see if your tastes have changed.

  3. Pink 'cause your LJ is all pink.

  4. You seem to have a great relationship with your family and I like that.

  5. I'm not really sure. It was just one of those running in the same circles and slowly becoming aware of each other's existence kind of things I suppose.

  6. I don't know. Something wild and cute. Um... a squirrel or a panda or a koala or something.

  7. What got you into the Harry Potter and R/T fandoms?

  8. Because it has pathetically taken me over a month to get around to answering this meme and you may not even remember it, you should not feel obligated to post in your journal, though you are of course still allowed to do so if you want to.

Don't worry. I'm the queen of late responses! (I thought about waiting a month before replying to this, to make you feel better, but it may have come across more snide than supportive). :)

3. Pink is a good choice. It's not just my LJ. It's also a fair proportion of my tops and jewellery, my pajamas, my mp3 player and my room colour scheme.

6. Panda would have been a good choice the last couple of nights. I really need to hunt out my waterproof mascara.

7. I was probably quite weird in that I got into the fandom first and the books second, really. I'd started the first book and already decided that Ginny and Harry were meant to be when I read a great Lily/James fic on ff.net and it all just started from there. As far as Remus and Tonks went, I honestly can't remember exactly when I started shipping them, although I have a feeling it was when I read Serendipity's , which is still one of my absolute favourites, and Tonks and Remus were just beginning a romance in it and I just fell in love with the idea of them as a couple. It's probably at least a little to do with the "older man" thing, which is definitely more sexy than squicky to me. Add in the Sexy!Professor thing and who could resist? :)
