It's been a bad day

Tags: ,
TL;DR: I had a headache. It went away. AudioGo is annoying me. I broke my toe.

I woke up this morning with a massive headache and my sinuses completely clogged. Decongestants, Tylenol, and a couple extra hours of sleep later and the headache was still there but not nearly as bad. I was feeling pretty drained, though, so I decided to skip the class for which I TA, not go to campus at all, and just piddle on my dissertation at home all day.

Somewhere in there I decided to take a break from the dissertation and check to see if the US version of AudioGo had finally put Copenhagen up for sale yet since it has been on the UK version for over a month. At AudioGo, I was greeted by a splash page saying that you could no longer make any purchases at AudioGo as they had transitioned to Downpour. I have three problems with this.
(1) I had over $10 left on a gift card at AudioGo.
(2) I had enough reward points at AudioGo for another $10 credit.
(3) The BBC Radio stuff is not available on Downpour. Just audiobooks.
I sent Downpour an email about the giftcard and points. They replied saying that they would transfer the $10 gift card balance to Downpour if I can provide them with the card number or order number from when I bought it or whatever and that they won't honor AudioGo points but they might be able to give me a credit for a book at Downpour to make up for the lost $10 worth of points. I replied with the information about the giftcard but explained that none of what I want from AudioGo is available at Downpour and unless they plan to move it over in the near future, giving me credit at AudioGo.co.uk, which is currently still up, would be preferable if they can do that. I'm still waiting for a response there but I suspect I'm going to get screwed somewhere in all this, if for no other reason than AudioGo.co.uk has always been a bit more expensive than the US one at recent pound-to-dollar conversion rates and if the BBC stuff moves to Downpour it will probably take even longer for it to get posted there and be more expensive than it was. Or maybe not and I'm just borrowing trouble.

Then around 4:00 I was walking in my hall and stubbed my toe. Except I stubbed it when I was going around a corner so the little toe got jammed and pulled one way while the rest of me went around the corner the other way. My poor little toe quickly started swelling and turning purple and was sticking out at a 45 degree angle from the rest of my foot. I know people break toes all the time and it isn't that big of a deal and they can't do much for it, but the sticking out at an angle thing worried me. so I called my mom, who used to work in nursing, and she said a broken toe is no big deal but a dislocated toe has to be reset ASAP so to go to the doctor. My roommate drove me to the student health center and we got there at like 4:30 when they close at 5:00. They have a mobile x-ray tech who is in twice a week, I think, and we happened to get there just as she was loading to leave so they called her back in to set her stuff back up. While she set up, two doctors and nurse shot my toe full of numbing something and tried pulling it back into place in case it was dislocated. That didn't really work and playing with it, the doctors both said it felt more broken than dislocated. So it was x-rayed and I definitely broke it pretty good and the bone was just setting at a funny angle. They tapped my little toe to the next one in to try to keep it in place and sent me on my way for now, after I'd kept them there at least half an hour past closing time. I have a follow up with their more bone break specialist on Wednesday to see if it is just going to have to heal as it will or if there needs to be something more done to it. At the moment, the numbing shot is just starting to wear off so it hurts a little but not too badly yet. I just took some oxycodone and I'm hoping it kicks in before the numbing seriously wears off. Fortunately I don't have to be on campus for anything tomorrow so I can let it rest and hopefully it will be OK for me to drive and get to campus on Wednesday.

Oh shit, I'm so sorry!
Just reading this made my toe hurt. I hope you don't hurt too much and that it will heal without any problems.

The pain is definitely getting better. It doesn't hurt much now as long as I don't put any pressure on it and even that's getting some better as I can now get a sock on which I couldn't the first couple of days. A shoe or even a boot cast is still out of the question.

I have a followup doctor appointment tomorrow afternoon to see if it is setting straight or if we'll have to do more to it. That appointment was supposed to be yesterday, but I sat there for an hour with an increasingly irritated doctor coming in and out to look at it before finally telling me that they couldn't find my x-rays so there wasn't anything he could do since he had no idea what the bone looked like. They've promised to have the x-rays found by Friday.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY? No, that's not annoying at all. Poor you.
I hope the appointment went well and they had your x-rays this time!

That doesn't sound like a nice day at all! I hope your toe heals quickly.

The toe is slowly getting better. I can get a sock on now, which I couldn't do the first couple of days as even that was too much pressure. Still can't do a shoe or even a boot cast. I'll get there.

Thanks. I'm getting there. I can now get a sock on over the toe so that's improvement!

Sorry about the toe. I broke mine falling off a sofa once- after the initial pain it wasn't much trouble so here's hoping for yours! And for the audiogo stuff.

I don't know why that last comment was anonymous... Me anyway.

Thanks. The toe is getting better. I can hobble short distances without crutches and can now get a sock on without having to cut a toe hole. I still can't do a shoe or a walking boot as that's too much pressure and pain so if I'm going long distances or outside at all, I'm still on crutches.

The new Downpour gave me the giftcard balance from AudioGo now but nothing on the points and just said that they're working on moving the more radio stuff over and they'll be sure to send me an email when they've got some of it there. We'll see.
