Spoiled Audiobooks

Tags: ,
I never really liked the idea of audiobooks, but over the last year or so I have come to love them. I love them for long drives, and since I have decided that I am driving to Texas in December and back to Virginia in January, I have four long days on the road in my near future for which audiobooks would be much appreciated. I love them even more when I'm out walking / running / hiking. I get to be outside, I'm exercising, and I'm "reading" all at the same time. What's not to love!?

I've been getting my audiobooks from my public library. They have a fantastic supply of digital audiobooks that I can download at home. All I need is my library card number and I'm all set. Unfortunately, sometime in September the library announced that they were changing audiobook vendors and that the old collection was gone and the new one wasn't up yet. They said the new collection would be up "sometime in the fall." That was a month and a half or two months ago and I'm going crazy without my audiobooks! Today I had the brilliant idea of investigating the options at my family's public library. They also have an amazing online collection of downloadable audio books. All I need is a library card number. So I called my parents and discovered that neither of them have a library card. I asked if they knew if any of the Ks (meaning my sister Katrina, her husband Kasey, and his brother Kyle) had cards. My parents didn't know but said they'd assume not. I called Katrina and she said she and Kasey used to have cards (I used to have a card for this library, too) but it has been so long they've probably lost the cards and the cards might not work even if they could find them. How can you not have a library card!? I'm seriously blown away by this. I buy a lot of books. A scary lot of books. I have shelves and shelves of books. Yet, I don't buy even a quarter of the books I read. If I did so, not only would I literally have no money for food, rent, etc. but I'd have no room to walk inside my house. I love my libraries, all four or five of them to which I currently have access.

As to the spoiled part of this title... my parents are going to get a library card today so I can have the number to access their library's audiobooks.
