Open Book II Layout Info

Tags:
I decided to switch layouts and bring back an old one that I've always loved. The long-time flisters might remember my open book layout. I've changed it a little, mostly to add in newer fandoms and to make the reading side a bit bigger. For those who haven't been around or don't remember this layout, I really like it but fair warning: it is image heavy and takes a bit to load until the pic is in your cache.

I think I've finished tweaking the layout for now. In this entry I list all the info for the layout, including credits for all the images and text I use in the background. If the page you are on is short (like an individual entry page), you won't get the entire background. If you want to see the whole thing, either try a long page like my main recent entry page or just select to view the background image.

If you spot any problems, let me know.

Screen Resolution:
If your screen width is less than 1200 pixels, things will probably get cut off and you'll have to scroll to the right edge. Sorry.

Browser:
I've looked at the layout in Firefox, IE, and Chrome and haven't noticed any problems. If you use another browser or have a different version of a browser than me, I make no promises as to how things will look.

Background Images:
I use a great many images in this layout. I am exceptionally grateful to the talented folks who have given me permission to use their hard work or who have just put their work out there free for all to use.
  1. The wood grain desk image is something I found on the internet years ago. At the moment I can't find the original source. I also don't remember where the glasses came from. Sorry.

  2. The main open book image is something I made in Paint Shop Pro.

  3. Antiquarian books (perhaps hidden by bookmark at top of page) from somewhere random on the internet. I'm not sure on the original source anymore.

  4. Harry Potter: Remus and Tonks, Prelude to a Kiss, by the uber-talented drumher

  5. Star Wars: Wedge Antilles from an official poster

  6. The West Wing: The main early cast from an official publicity photo

  7. Logo of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team.

  8. Indiana Jones: Lego Indy from an official advertisement for the video game.

  9. Harry Potter: The Marauders, Strip Poker, by the wonderful Marta

  10. The Monkees from an official publicity photo.

  11. Star Wars: Luke and Mara from a picture in the book Jedi vs. Sith: The Official Guide to the Force.

  12. The seal of the College of William and Mary

  13. Hogan's Heroes: The Heroes from a screen grab from the DVD collection. I don't remember which episode.

Background Text:
The text is a combination of excerpts from my fanfic and favorite quotes from various canons.
  1. Chocolate-Covered Tonks: One of my numerous Harry Potter Remus / Tonks fanfics. Available here.

  2. X-Wing: Starfighters of Adumar: One of my all-time favorite Star Wars novels. It is by Aaron Allston and is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and other fine book stores.

  3. The Amendment Game: Thus far, my only West Wing fic. Available here. I suspect only people really geeky about the West Wing, American history, American politics, and the Constitution will really enjoy this, which may very well mean just me, but there should be others in the West Wing fandom that fit that description.

  4. Dr Jones' Bedside Manner: One of my few Indiana Jones fics. Available here.

  5. Boys' Night Out: One of my few non-Remus/Tonks Harry Potter fics. Of course, since it is the Marauders with a heavy dose of Remus, I guess that isn't much of a departure. Available here.

  6. Long Title (Do I Have to Do This All Over Again): It's a Monkees song. I love the Monkees. This song isn't necessarily a favorite, but I do like it quite a bit, it was actually written by one of the four band members (Peter Tork), and I have these exact thoughts, "Do I have to do this all over again? Didn't I do it right the first time?" almost every day of my life.

  7. Senses of Love: A star Wars Luke / Mara fic and one of the very few sexually explicit things I've ever written. Since I don't write this kind of thing very often, it isn't the best, but it was for a challenge and it's fun to be different sometimes. You can find it here.

  8. The Great Shrivelfig Caper: A Harry Potter Remus / Tonks action-adventure comedy. One of the longest and best received one-shots I've ever written. Available here.

  9. The Heroes' Mission Orders: The general operating orders of the POWs from a comedic TV show set in World War II Germany. I know, it sounds crazy, but it really is awesome. This quote is from a season three episode, The Collector General.

Physical Layout:
The base style is Nebula. I've made numerous changes, some of which are available to free users and others require a paid account. I've gotten a ton of code and coding help from s2flexisquares which I've then modified to work with Nebula.

This is one of the most BEAUTIFUL LJ Layouts I've seen! Love the excerpts and the background images.

Thanks :) I'm kind of proud of it, so this is really nice to hear (well... read).
