One of the Most Frustrating Aspects of My Life

Tags:
I got an email of rejection for the big research fellowship for which I applied in the fall. I don't take the rejections too personally because in most cases they get a few thousands applications for maybe a dozen fellowships so it is really just a crap shoot, but that is part of the big problem with the entire research process. I have to take weeks off from actually working on my dissertation in order to complete applications for money so I can keep working on my dissertation. This would be a minor annoyance, but completely worth it if I ever actually got any of the money. As things stand, I've been rejected for everything for which I've applied except things from my department / college. So all the weeks I've spent not making progress on my dissertation to do all these applications just become wasted time. Over the past three years, I've lost probably four to six months worth of work days to complete all these applications so that's four to six months I could be further along on my dissertation if I'd known in advance I wouldn't get any of the grants or fellowships and not wasted my time.
Frustrated
Feeling: Frustrated
Exploring: Office at school
Listening: People chatting in the hall and other offices

Why do these people not want to throw money at you? I think your dissertation topic is awesome and they should give you lots of money so you can go get your hands on the documents you need. Instead of a homework monster, you need a grant monster.

Thanks. I think my topic is pretty cool, too. I guess either I'm not doing a good enough job of presenting it or the people with the money are stinkers.

I'd kill for a grant monster.

My vote is that the money people are stinkers.
