"You are now friends with Neil Gaiman"

Tags: ,
OMG! Seriously. That's the email I just received!!

As most of you probably know from my sidebar and occasional post mentions, I'm a member at GoodReads.com and I love it. It is a social networking site based exclusively on books. You list books you've read, are reading, and want to read and you can find people and groups who like similar stuff and get recommendations for new things to try. Anyway, they have an author program and Neil Gaiman recently joined. So I sent him a friend request. And he is apparently online right now and just accepted it! I wonder if I should print and frame the email?

I don't think I'm actually a big enough dork to frame the email, but I do think this is cool!

NEIL GAIMAN IS ONLINE RIGHT NOW??? AND I CAN BE FRIENDS WITH HIM??

My stomach is literally fluttering right now. I am a sad, strange girl.

You are a sad, strange girl? I'm the one considering framing a computer-generated auto email alert!

Awesome!

I just joined GoodReads - mind terribly if I friend you there? I need new ideas for reading material...

I don't mind at all if you friend me. Actually, aren't we Facebook friends? I think if you add the Facebook GoodReads app, it will automatically add us as friends at the main GoodReads site. Of course, you may not want the facebook app.

We are facebook friends, but I already have IReads on my facebook, and several friends on that, so I'm reluctant to get a GoodReads as well. I'll try searching for you on the site.

The thing to think is that he's sat there holding an email saying, "You're now friends with Rachael!" And is even more thrilled!!!:D

As I am the most cyncial, untrusting person I know, they proved it's him, I take it, when he joined this author program... As you do hear so many tales. Though I do feel sorry for the real famous person who genuinely does these things, and then is left desperately trying to prove it's actually them, lol.

And, not to sound totally cynical, if it's him then that is indeed AWESOME! As I know you and you know Neil!

I understand the cynicism and believe me, the same question occurred to me. I don't know how GoodReads confirmed his identity, but the site owners seem certain it is the real Neil Gaiman (and the correct one as opposed to some gas station attendant in Nebraska who just happens to have the same name). Every author has a profile at GoodReads and my new friend's (lol) personal profile links to the author profile which is something only GoodReads can do and I first saw a mention of Neil Gaiman having joined in a message posted by one of the creators/owners of the site.

I noticed last night that he had flagged someone's review of one of his books as a favorite review. I now want to read all of his books and write the world's best reviews (if only I could) so I might have an excuse to squee even more.

It is him. He posted about it on his blog.

Do you think I'd impress him by saying, "Erm, Neil - I'm the admirer of yours who was very concerned that it just might not be you we were all admiring?" ;)

Or shall I just go and write the best ever review of one of his books... LOL.

Rachael,

Just in case you REALLY wanted to see what my library consist of, hit my profile if you'd like. I have added roughly 150 books, the ones I could remember. Of course, when I pull the library from storage, I'll add even more!

Hope all is well.
