As if I was not disappointed enough by his looks and play and now I'm outright annoyed (better to say angry) with him!
HOW does he want to play Remus with that ridiculous mustache of his when he never understood his character!>:C

I'm annoyed at him but I think I'm angrier about the director. The HP directors are driving me insane. You've got the PoA director spouting stuff like "Play Remus as a gay junkie" and the OotP director saying his goal was to turn the longest book into the shortest movie. Time for a redo!
drumher: david_tibet[info]drumher on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 03:36 pm (UTC)
Ah...don't blame him for that unfortunate facial hair (it was much better in OotP) blame the makeup people!
What's Taters, Precious?: Fringe[info]mrstater on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 03:43 pm (UTC)
But I do wonder if Cuaron told the makeup person he was going for gay junkie...Tweed and that sort of mustache don't really say either to me, how about you?
drumher: eyebrow[info]drumher on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 03:53 pm (UTC)
I'm not really sure what a Gay Junkie should look like. ;) I'm thinking tight leather pants and a black tshirt. The mustache looks more "Pimp" to me. Damn Rowling for not being more descriptive!
drumher: david_tibet[info]drumher on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 03:53 pm (UTC)
not that the movie people pay attention to the books...

Harry looked up from the Gryffindor table and saw that Professor Dumbledore was introducing the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, who was dressed in a very shabby pair of leather pants and a black t-shirt and was looking like one more hit of heroin might finish him off.

"Bloody hell," said Ron beside him with a low whistle. "I thought it could only get better after Lockhart. Now we've got a gay junkie."

"Honestly, Ronald," said Hermione huffily. "You're such a heterosexual. If you look past the stereotypes, Professor Lupin is clearly just a werewolf."

ROFLMAO! Man, I love you! (in a strictly platonic HET way);)

It's all becoming clear to me. Dumbledore's gay. Snape's a drug pusher and Remus is turning tricks in the Astronomy tower for his next fix. It's amazing what you can get out of Rowling's little hints...

What's Taters, Precious?[info]mrstater on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 04:33 pm (UTC)
I love you, too. But do you know who I totally could see as a drug pusher? Horace Slughorn. Pineapples, indeed.
=====

"My kind don't usually breed!" cried Remus, clutching his thick hair in his hands and looking quite deranged.

"But Remus," said Hermione. "I thought last year you were turning tricks for potatoes and tins of beans."

"Well, yes -- but Fenrir Greyback's prostitution ring was always very fastidious about protection."

That so makes sense. They were crystallized too, weren't they? Like pineapple crack!

"Well, yes -- but Fenrir Greyback's prostitution ring was always very fastidious about protection."

And no biting!
What's Taters, Precious?[info]mrstater on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 05:13 pm (UTC)
Yes, I couldn't think of the word crystallized. He's totally got a crystal meth lab down there in the potions classroom.
drumher: eyebrow[info]drumher on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 05:41 pm (UTC)
Seen on message board in the Slythern common room :

Professor Slughorn is looking for students for an extra credit project in the lab.

Only NEWT level students need apply.

ZOMG! This must be how Crabbe and Goyle suddenly got so good at magic in their 7th year. They were totally tripping out on crystal meth and did it by accident!

omg LOL! This has to be the funniest things I've read all day. GENIUS!
What's Taters, Precious?: Fringe[info]mrstater on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 02:55 pm (UTC)
Isn't that the most annoying thing ever? I don't get where Remus comes off as being gay in POA as he doesn't fit any stereotype. Why gay? Because he's 30something and apparently single? You'd think that even if that caused doubt, the werewolf revelation would be explanation enough for anything not straight-forward about him...

The junkie bit is equally baffling.
Rachael: Stack of Books[info]bratty_jedi on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 03:06 pm (UTC)
I just don't get it. I can't wrap my brain around it no matter how I try.
drumher: eyebrow[info]drumher on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 03:35 pm (UTC)
If we follow the stereotypes, every character in HP who is single is gay. Gasp! Could that mean that Rowlings books are just an evil extension of the "gay agenda"! Save the children!
drumher: eyebrow[info]drumher on Thursday, 25 October 2007 at 03:29 pm (UTC)
Oy! Can't these people just cut the guy some slack? Isn't it enough of a social stigma for Remus to be a Werewolf?
Shield Wolf[info]shield_wolf on Friday, 26 October 2007 at 02:41 pm (UTC)
This is old news, really. It was widely known around the time the movie was released that Cuaron had told the kids to think of Lupin as "your favorite gay uncle on smack." I think that he was simply trying to draw a humorous analogy there, in the sense that he meant that Remus should be lovable but also seem a bit "off," but it didn't go so well for him when the words actually came out of his mouth.
Tips[info]teddy_tips on Friday, 26 October 2007 at 07:24 pm (UTC)
Unfortunate indeed. But it does seem like there's this need to make Remus embody every single possible social stigma ever created in all of history, and despite the fact that he's supposed to represent the blah blah, you know, we really don't need to dump all the world's problems on him. He's like and outlet! I can just see him. Leprosy having set in, gay, a crack addict, dyed hair, "uncle"(?) etc....The Lupins in general have been...erm, messed over?
And the movies are also rather...not as awesome as they should be. It's ridiculously disappointing. When OotP came out I was thrilled simply that they kept Tonks in. To think that such a simple thing delighted me at this point in the series. Ugh.

*deep breath*

Sorry, kay. I'm done now...*blushes*
Rachael: Lego - Star Wars[info]bratty_jedi on Saturday, 27 October 2007 at 02:26 am (UTC)
It's all good. This is a safe zone for all ranting!

I suppose in some ways we should be glad JKR killed Remus. If she hadn't, her estate after she is gone might decide to allow a made-for-tv movie or something all about the Harry Potter characters well down the road and we might be stuck with the image of Lupin painted here!
Merry: upnogood[info]merryb87 on Friday, 26 October 2007 at 09:51 pm (UTC)
Blackunicorn77 lead me to this, anyway, I find this nothing but funny and nothing to be angry about at all.

Though, urg its clear David doesn't read the books, cause he's under the impression that he and Tonks had a litter or something. They should have, but didn't!
Rachael: Hogwarts Bears[info]bratty_jedi on Saturday, 27 October 2007 at 02:23 am (UTC)
I'm more annoyed than truly angry. It just bugs me that people who clearly don't understand the characters/series at even the most basic level are the ones in charge of the movies.
